Vertical passes to his feet? Does this mean over the top? Or is this from the player positioned above his head?
He means vertical as in up the pitch.
It sounds weird to us, but it's in contrast to horizontal passing, as in side to side.
Nobody's passing it from the midfield to his feet when he's standing in an advanced position.

Good selection IMO. Mount has been underwhelming as has Foden so glad Southgate is mixing it up with the attackers. Good for Maguire to get minutes too as I ultimately think he’s more reliable than Mings, though the latter hasn’t done much wrong in the 2 games so far.

Would perhaps liked to have seen Bellingham over Phillips as the young lad gives more going forward but with Grealish dropping into midfield instead of playing wide we might get that from him instead.

Mount is isolating and Foden is on a yellow. Southgate kinda been forced into those changes.

I know. Should have phrased it more like Southgate being pushed into them. Hopefully the lads smash it today and he doesn’t have an excuse to return players to the XI who aren’t performing.

No midfield general or playmaker in the squad means there will still be a problem holding on to the ball and creating chances.
I think England need to get these attacking full backs forward and putting in crosses from wide areas in a typically English way like we’ve always done forever.

I also like the lineup, to my surprise (edit) with the notable exception of Maguire.

I like the looks of this team, hoping we make an early chance that Harry converts just think he needs a goal to get his mojo back.

Win the match, win the group and build confidence, none of this better to finish 2nd nonsense.

How's Sterling missed that? Did everything else right and just put it slightly too wide.
Did the keeper get fingers to it?
