I'm not sure what the hell is going on but after living on the queens hills estate for a couple of years I had never seen any city player in Sainsburys at Longwater, then yesterday I see Elliot Bennett and his girlfriend and Adam Drury, then today Drury again and Hoolahan. Have they all got together and decided that Nectar points are a good idea? Who knows. It's a bit odd though, like buses, you wait ages for one and then loads arrive all at the same time. I didn't say anything to them, as I didn't want to come across as some sort of weirdo. Just wondering if you guys have ever ran into any city players? and if so in any strange circumstances?
I saw Robert Green in Tuckswood Bennets once with his wife!... Oh and I went to school with Robert Chase's son. Nice bloke - his son I mean - didn't know his dad for obvious reasons as it was a busy time in the early nineties!!!
I wonder how long before the Shola Ameobi spotters jump on this thread? Technically he is not a Canary but it is only a matter of time!!!
I saw Worthy out near Cley once, but other than that I've only ever seen players in the City. Worthy again, in Asda, Hucks in M & S, Matt Jackson in Boots in the Mall. Saw Greeno in a restaurant once too, but I can't for the life of me think which one! How come you're only showing as having had two posts, Kemp? You had to set up a new account?
Chris Woods and Ken Brown came down to Kett's Cave Park in the eighties to open the 5 a side pitch there. It was a dirt pitch with tree trunk goal posts before, and then the tarmac arrived. All the kids lined up to take pennos against Chris Woods. I'm sad to say I scuffed mine wide. Ken Brown received a lot of stick from the local "bigguns". Happy days.
Last time we were in the prem I went to the Everton away game. At half time I was drinking my beer when I turned round into what seemed like a brick wall. I looked up and Bryan Gunn was looking down at me. I literally bumped into him ha ha.
No way, I was there that night! Actually, quite a few of the first team came down. Peter Mendham went on to run a 5-a-side tournement there on Sunday Mornings for quite some time afterwards. I used to play for the greens (the teams were divided into different colours).
A few years ago I found myself talking with Nigel Worthington in Dereham Tesco's, going back a few more years ago I bumped in to Clint Easton in Sainsbury's and going even further back, after a midweek game with WBA I went for a Chinese take away and sat at the table was Chris Woods, Peter Mendham & their wives
I've seen Glenn Roeder, Huckerby, Drury and Fleming in my local Waitrose, as well as Iwan and Paul McVeigh at Dunston Hall
Nando's some of our players practically live there by the sounds of things. Quite surprised though if I had all that money I wouldn't be going into Nando's all the time. Also a lot of people tend to see current players and ex players in Rocco's.
I've seen him around there too. I went to school with Bryan Gunn's daughter, but only ever saw the man himself once from a distance.
I saw the Ginger Pele filling up his car with petrol at what used to be the Jet garage at the city end of Dereham road. Like you Kemp, I said nothing, but I may have stared and creeped him out just a tad. He was playing okay at that point so heckling wasn't in order.
met grant holt, chris martin, wes hoolahan and david fox at the norfolk show a few years back. Wes is amazingly small and Holty not as big as youd think. Shook their hand and said "thank you" my voice trembling holding back tears of joy...
He did but is trying to rebuild his life now. From my knowledge of him he is a very nice man who made a bad decision or two. Such a shame as like I said, he used to give up his Sunday mornings every weekend to come and organise some 5-a-side football for a group of kids. He didn't have to do that. At the time he was a top flight footballer. How many of todays Premier League players would do the same? Mind you, not many then would have either. I'll not hear a bad word against the man.
In the 80's I met him and Trevor Putney who was wearing a shocking jumper (it was the 80's after all) in the club shop you rarely see people do that these days, I was a bit shocked when I heard he'd been charged with attempted murder that's all.
Saw Safri outside a nightclub in southampton just after he signed for them. I asked him what the real reason for leaving was. He replied "because Peter Grant was an idiot". Charming! Also used to see Iwan Roberts in Greens gym. My favourite though has to be seeing David Bentley and his missus outside a chippy near Wymondham. She shouted inside to him. "oh David get mum and dad some fish and chips will ya?" his response "nah luv they int got any fish they only got plaice!" Not the sharpest tool...
