With England it all just reeks of football management by committee. You've got a bunch of out of touch dinosaurs sitting around a big wooden table at FA HQ telling Southgate how to do his job. Alright, he's not the most forward thinking manager in any sense, but without the dinos watching him maybe he would be making different decisions. I mean, most of these players are used to playing modern up-to-date football at top clubs, pressing, getting themselves and the ball forward, high tempo and rhythm, all that ... then they come to England and it's lope around, pass it sideways, stand still, pass it back

I think there’s plenty you can blame the old suits at the FA for, but the way Southgates England set up and play isn’t one of them.

Good to see that there was no widespread trouble last night. The met must have been worried about the Friday 8pm ko.

I was watching a live stream of Leicester Square yesterday, before and after the game. 90% of the Scottish fans there were let's say 'having a nice time' but keeping it reasonable by the standards you'd imagine from a massive crowd of football fans. You can never justify the littering and floods of piss and cheap alcohol sloshing around the place but if that's the worst of it then they've behaved themselves.

10% of them maybe were being stupid and throwing bins and glass around etc etc. From what it looked like once it got late and the police moved in it was the police instigating any problems by going in hard as they wanted them out of the area so it could be cleaned up for normal tourist / commercial activities to resume this morning.

I don't know, I feel it's likely there's pressure coming from above to not mess it up by trying to play too adventurously and not damage the reputation of the FA and the English team, so they'd rather he plays dull, backwards, retrograde football to at least ensure they get out of the group, even if it's via scoring one goal in a drab win and two 0-0 draws

If that's the case then it goes to show how weak southgate is if he deliberately plays defensively cause hes been told not to mess up.

Its all on southgate imo. Hes always been a defensive coach from club level. Why would he suddenly change at national level

Anyone know what this was about?
