Castle Eden was shut, so we got a courtesy four ball for nowt. Eight of us played and split the cost, £15 each.
Fairways were bare, and where had been cut, the grass was left to blow away. Greens were poor, not impressed at all.
They never put enough water on that course. When you build a golf course to USGA design specs you have to water it all the time cos they drain so fast. Decent layout but there are so many bad holes. You could have a good 18 hole course if you got rid of the other stupid 18. Castle Eden is a good track by the way. Brancepeth is my favourite though. Shot 64 there in a league match when I was an amateur( years ago mind)

Good grief, 64!
Shot my best ever 77 six months ago, followed by a 97 two days later <doh>

I was off 1 at the time and it was matchplay but I holed every putt!!
God knows what I'd shoot these days. Technically I'm still a Pro but I haven't hit a ball for 5 years.

Tried to book castle Eden for last weekend. Crazy busy from what I could tell. Played Sharpley instead which, thus far, has been my favourite course I've played up here
We’ve got a booking system now, up to two weeks in advance. It’s usually busy, but there’s always some slots.
You still based in York? Canny hike for a game of golf.

Nah I bought a house in Coxhoe and moved in last month. Trying out the different courses trying to figure out which one I want to join. Heard great things about castle Eden so ill book for 2 weeks time <laugh>

Lost interest after being so good?
No. Had a golf shop, went bump, got sick of the business so moved to Istanbul. 18 million people, 2 golf courses for millionaires. Although I'm thinking of joining one of them cos my lad wants to play golf with his Dad. Miss the golf but it the craic I miss more than anything tbh.
