Gary Neville's England career is all down to Rob Jones being injured all the time. From what I remember of Rob, he was a bloody brilliant right back and by far the best England had at that time

Lucky that nicol could play LB just as well as RB and was on the way out as a man with many many problems with the drink.

Seem to remember Jones got injured just about every time England were about to announce tournament squads.
We signed him in 1991/92 season for 300k from crewe and threw him straight in. He got shin splints first and then a cracked vertebrae
We threw him straight in v utd and he was great. Played the 92 fa cup final and nicol moved to lb.
He was then injured for 92 with the shin splints and Evan's bought mcateer and threw jones over to lb. Then he got the back injury and that was that. He was 26? Maybe even 25 and that was really that
So that was 92 and 96 gone and as we all know in 1994 england miserably missed qualification for the world cup.
He was toast after the back injury.
I did think at the time that his tournament was over. He had his injury without any other player near him and he couldn’t even walk off the pitch.
