I’m hoping it’s Austria and not Australia as my eyes are getting ****terer anyway why is the only Austrian player I can ever remember is Hans krankl??? it’s on at 8pm tonight from Middlesbrough!! No idea why 3-0
Almost the entire Austrian national squad play in Germany, the only one that plays here is Daniel Bachmann, who's Watford's keeper (though he's yet to actually make an appearance for Austria).
Match stats England will face Austria for the first time since November 2007, a 1-0 friendly win courtesy of Peter Crouch's goal in Vienna. Austria last visited England for an away match in October 2005 in a World Cup qualifier, losing 1-0 at Old Trafford thanks to a Frank Lampard penalty. England's last defeat by Austria came in June 1979, losing 4-3 in Vienna in a friendly under Ron Greenwood. On home soil, England's only defeat in six previous meetings came in October 1965 at Wembley, losing 3-2. England have won their last six friendly matches, scoring 14 goals and conceding just one. They last won seven friendlies in a row between June 1985 and May 1986 under Sir Bobby Robson. Austria have won eight of their last 10 friendly matches (L2), scoring at least twice in seven of those eight wins. This is only England's second ever match at the Riverside Stadium in Middlesbrough, after their 2-1 win over Slovakia in June 2003. Manager Gareth Southgate - then of Middlesbrough - played the full 90 minutes for the Three Lions that day. England striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has scored four goals in seven appearances so far, including in friendly games against Wales and Republic of Ireland. Calvert-Lewin is averaging a goal every 73 minutes in his England career, the best ratio of any player to play at least five games for the Three Lions since the Second World War.
There up there all this week ( pretty close to Darlington ) training for this game and Sundays game, the place they are set up for the week is pretty nice. I'm going Sunday and looking forward to getting to a game
Always remember the World Cup qualifier when they played W Germany both knew a draw would put them through and neither side ventured over the halfway line. They both just passed the bal around a bit like Chelsea and Man City do these days. The rules were changed after the game so teams played at the same time avoiding another fiasco
Class bit of play that. Great pass and run by Grealish and nice little lay-off by Lingard too. It's bollocks he's not going because we're taking four right-backs.
I can see why games like this are important for Southgate in terms of fine-tuning his selections and for players trying to play themselves into contention but my god it's boring! After promotions/relegations, playoffs, cup finals and Euros coming up this just doesn't cut it. I'm not sure why ITV bother covering it.
75 mins in and its 75 mins I'll never get back after watching this bore fest .. always the same .. going through the motions til the real business begins
I don't trust Pickford in goal at all for a major tournament. Also, if Trent's frigged can we still call someone else up to replace him?
England could have their own tv channel, why not? Broadcast friendlies, interviews, clips of training sessions, all the stuff football people might want to see. Saves putting games like this on a mainstream, free to air tv channel. I reckon 90% of the population would rather be watching whatever ITV1 normally broadcasts than this. Thoughts?
