Well here’s a tale of woe of what constitutes law and order in the UK these days.
My son was at his place of work yesterday, when his wife/my daughter in law contacted him. She is in charge of a covid testing station in Bridport at the local leisure centre (my granddaughter also works there) and told him that the car park and field had been invaded by (lets call them travellers) who were setting up camp.
They had become threatening, abusive, spitting and throwing stones at her and her staff and members of the leisure centre staff.
The police had been called on multiple occasions but 2 hours after the start of the invasion, there had been zero attendance. Eventually a single crewed boy soldier arrived later followed by a double crewed vehicle.
At no time during the police attendance did anybody of any rank whatsoever turn up to assess or give guidance. The officers basically hid in the the leisure centre and at no time engaged with any of the travellers at any stage.
The upshot of this is of course the leisure centre and the covid testing site are both closed until further notice for what the management has described as “circumstances beyond their control” they haven’t got the guts to admit the reason why.
This invasion could easily have been stopped at the very beginning.
Is this really something that in the 21st century in the UK, with the restrictions that we are already living under, that constitutes acceptable behaviour all round? + have we become so pathetically sensitive that the management of the leisure centre do not have the guts to call it what it is?
This is exactly why the police need better, clearer defined and tougher laws to protect the forgotten law abiding members of society.
