I have backed Lusail for the Coventry after he overcame a slow start to win when unfancied on debut. I thought he did well to win that race and he holds an entry in the Group 2 Railway Stakes next month.

He had the option of the National Stakes at Sandown but comes to Pontefract instead. There were a couple of race reports that thought his debut was full of promise and if he is to take up any of the better engagements he holds he really needs to win at Ponty.

I expect improvement from his first race and was encouraged to see some tips for him in the 7.10 Pontefract. I didn't expect him to be 3/1 and have gone in at those odds. If he doesn't shorten from that price I will be concerned and very nervous.

    7.10 Pontefract Lusail 3/1

Very unlucky when 2nd fav over cd last time out

"Slowly into stride and hampered start, raced in last, pushed along halfway, hung right from 2f out, ran on inside final furlong, not reach leaders (jockey said gelding was slowly away and suffered interference at the start"

Paul Mulrennan takes over from a 7lb apprentice today.

We have today at Stratford the traditional Hunters Chase card. Let's go with two horses that are not favorites.

    18,55 Adrien Du Pont 11/4
    19,30 Monsieur Gibraltar 9/2

    7:55 Airshow @ 5/1

I thought this horses run on the all weather last time out was very interesting and with the yard in great form, he should really appreciate ground with some kind of cut in it (albeit not as soft as it looked likely). This is his second run after wind surgery and for me he is too well handicapped to ignore.

A very tricky day today with ground that will probably be nothing like advertised at most meetings. Stakes to a minimum for me.

I'm on Afandem at 9/2, back to 5F and down in class may be the key.

Morning all, I think Oddy has mentioned this one a few times before on the flat and today we see EILEENDOVER over obstacles in the 6.10 Haydock. Currently 15/8 fav.

Not looking good for Lusail. He's pretty weak in the betting and Angel Bleu is the one they all seem to want.

I more or less resigned myself to Lusail not winning tonight. The vibes were bad and he had no excuses other than perhaps he didn't go on the ground. I always feel that a really talented horse can find a way on most ground types and perhaps it just wasn't as good a race as I had felt at York last time.

The money was all for Angel Bleu and there was no real doubt they would collect. Ran a promising race there tonight and there should be more to come when the ground is similar.

Disappointed with Lusail there. Richard Hannon can forget about aiming him at the Coventry or Railway Stakes after that showing tonight. He just looked uneasy throughout the race and never really picked up.
