Which nations are better educated?

 

So as usual I look at the Euro news each morning for a quick read and every paper is talking about the Swiss walking away from talks with the EU after threats... Every paper bar The Guardian and The Independent. Funny that?
We mustn't say anything bad about ‘The Bullies from Brussels’?

 

Difficult to define unless you go by tertiary education which inevitably gets gammon into a froth though we rank quite highly on that even if it’s driven by baristas with Media Studies degrees from Bolton. I believe Canada is, or at least was, top for that. If you mean politically, it’s an observation about this country. There’s probably articles out there on it.

Before Ellers bursts into tears again about me saying thick people shouldn’t be able to vote, that’s not what I’m saying. However, when you have a political system as antiquated as ours and then bottle a huge topic by giving people an over-simplified referendum, you give people who don’t have a clue about anything a huge say in the direction the country goes, which logically is a terrible way to make decisions for society.

 

How are we being bullied? Aren’t we meant to be stronger now?

I said they are bullying the Swiss. Last night I read a load of tweets and articles from Swiss nationals who were calling them bullies. One day you might wise up and actually realise that it's not just ‘thick uneducated right-wing gammon’ that knows they are bullies.

Cummings evidence a bit disappointing after all that build up. Inconsistent with his previous statements, clearly targeted towards certain individuals (see no criticism whatsoever of Gove and Sunak) and, most importantly, no hard evidence.

Whatever one thinks of his credibility at a witness, we know that he's a bloody good political operator when he puts his mind to it. Wouldn't be surprised if this is an opening salvo with more evidence to come - but it will have to be if he actually wants to do any serious damage.

One irony might well be that he solidifies Hancock's position, given Johnson won't want to be seen to be pandering to Cummings by firing Hancock.

 

Maybe the people of this country didn't have the intelligence to answer yes or no. Maybe it should be left to the likes of you and Femi?
You have really made yourself look stupid here mate. Perhaps we should ask the Irish or the countless other countries if their people had a phd before they were allowed to answer in or out?

As for bullying... Ask people of Jersey who were threatened with having their power cut off over a delay in a fishing licence or what the EU said about the UK access to EU markets?

After a days reflection I would probably say there maybe some truth in some of this, however Cummings had the privilege of working with the PM and was involved in highly sensitive meetings. He didn't need to try and point score or hang out the dirty washing in public. History tells us that Churchill made mistakes and cost lives. Downing St during the war was not always this command centre depicted in films. Cummings should have kept his gob shut and said all this at an inquiry or in some book in a few years. It was to cause maximum damage to the PM and Hancock (who was one of the main voices who wanted him gone). A poll last night said 75% of the votes didn't believe Cummings. I have said all along that this was unprecedented and mistakes will always happen. We learn from them and move on.

 

Glad we kind of got there in the end.

Anyway I want to get back to your ‘education comments’. So it's not okay for the thick UK electorate to have a referendum with ‘yes or no’ or ‘in & out’ but it's okay for other countries to do exactly the same?

What stupid arrogant comments by him. He is one of those who think people other than him, are too stupid to make decisions. Sadly for a nice fella he comes out with some tw2tty cr2p. He is too stupid to realise that history tells us that the normal working person has a better idea about life than elitist ####’s who think they are better than others.

I don’t think almost any normal person had the required knowledge to make an informed decision in hindsight. It’s proven to be an even more complex issue than it was assumed to be before. The ineptitude and lack of understanding from the likes of Frost at the very top show that. Far, far more complex and important than just about any other referenda in the world I can think of, with no option to ask the question again once people were a tad more informed, no requirement for honesty in the campaigns and a straight 50%+1 required for the win and no real potential for politicians to veto it, it was always a recipe for disaster. If it’s a sensible way to run a country we’d be doing it all the time. Sadly Cameron gambled on shutting down the UKIP element in his party and losing that gamble has empowered the absolute dregs of society. Neatly culminating in your faux-shock at Marcus Rashford this morning.
