The way I look at these things is this, people underestimate european sides all the time but find that players like Fernandes are suddenly half the guy they think he is the minute a decent defensive shape is put up against them.
He was far too advanced, had no space and was anonymous. I dont think he touched the ball all of extra time.
Also if an manager is up on the sideline actively engaged I am not sure exactly how helpful it really is but I do know if he sits in his seat saying nothing then puts on defensive players it's all rather pointless. Ogs always strikes me as a guy waiting for something to happen rather than thinking how to influence the game.
Anyway the pens were not all great. Both keepers should have saved 2 or 3. Both were just guessing and half the time a guy was passing it home after then jumped out of the way. The villa real keeper should have saved to win the game twice where he got a weak hand to them and one he actually had his other hand on the ground rather than go two handed at.
De gea was poor but got a couple guesses right but villareal smashed them all home, he tickled a couple but had weak wrists. Actually his own pen was the weakest hit strike of the night.
The guy tried every trick and the ref ought to have booked him. He gobbled on the ball. Talked to at least 4 of the villareal players, stood out of the nets making players weight but forgot the basics of actually standing up and waiting for the strike.
