He didn't want to face Warnock next season.....
LJ did ok, top 4 finish, stability of sorts established and did win a bit of silverware, The Papa John cup, I'll give him credit for that, it's just that streaky run business again.Come on now be nice !

A top 4 finish and the Mickey Mouse cup isn't what 40,000 fans want.
What they wanted, and expected, was promotion, whether automatic or via the Playoffs and he failed

He inherited a squad that at the time all the Sunderland fans felt was rubbish, and which had seen off 5 manager in last 3 years (pretty sure many on here can sympathise with that predicament.....). With only 1 window and no money he has given them their highest league finish since they got relegated. Obviously the fans wanted promotion, what team doesn't, but Sunderland are in a mess, and any past history of and Championship and Premiership football is a long way from where they are now, so I think their fans need to wake up to that reality.
If they sack him, that will be 6 managers in 3 years. That is no way to progress, and they will stay in L1 if they continue with that mindset.
I agree - I wasn’t saying it would be the right thing to do - just that I think it will happen.
Sunderland fans too expect (rightly or wrongly) to be in a higher position than they are. As we all know the manager is the first casualty when failings on the pitch happen - and they will see not getting out of L1 as a failure.
Fans are fickle. Look how long Coventry, Ipswich and Forest were in that league - to say nothing of ourselves. Sunderland fans won’t think about that - they will simply expect promotion and LJ hasn’t delivered.

increased points average from 1.6 per game to 1.71 [ over a season =73 to potentially 78! ……

lost …....6
had 15 home games and 16 away … from 9th to 4th …...
increased GD from 0.333 to 0.742 per game
bad period .. won 0 drew 3 lost 4 goals for 8 against 12 = GD 4 …. DRAWS WERE 1 - 1 A .. managed a EQUALIZER in 81st minute …... 2 - 2 A .. a 64 th minute lapse! ... 3 - 3 H …. suffered an OG and 85th minute equaliser ….
I think all in all has done a very good job … a summer transfer window and crowd to drive on at home and an away following of a few thousand might just put them up there again....

a separate report on NUNO at Wolves lost his job!!! highlighted the fact that they did less well after losing 2 key players 1 sold [ was best player! ] other injured! thought how lucky he was to have had sold out from under him and 1 injury City past few years can add a more to those totals!
we can breathe a bit for next season only got PETERBRO TO CONTEND WITH!
Nuno left by mutual agreement, a few days ago, and he took charge yesterday so not exactly lost his job. My money is he’s got another job lined up.
