Solutions to the problems at SAFC

  • Sack the head coach, keep the players - it's all down to him

  • Get shot of most of the players - it's their fault

  • Keep the gaffer, he will get it right under the new owner

  • Fans fault (lol, just joking)

  • Armageddon, we are lifetime members of league 1 regardless

  • That's football! Still getting a season ticket

I don’t understand putting Flannaghan on instead of Jones it’s totally baffling in my opinion but the bloke has to be given a full pre season and a transfer window with his ideas. I fully understand those wanting him gone but for me it’s still PP’s squad plus the centre half injury situation totally ****ed us.
As gutted as I was yesterday it was ****ing brilliant being back in the ground cheering on the lads and chanting like **** in the Premier Concourse. I can’t wait for next season now.

I thought LJ looked a worried man. My concern is we bring 10-15 players in and he doesnt get it right.

I agree mate, but I think it's only right to give him first crack at getting it right. There's nothing to suggest that if we brought another manager in, he would get it right first time.

Yet Peter Reid failed and we were screaming for his head. He threw in a couple of players got a few wins and went on to give us the best years of recent times.
Still think he stayed too long but hey two sides to every coin.
If you are talking about 1997 - Reidy had a hell of a lot of credit in the bank by then. Johnson has none.

If he stays, then fine lets' back him
If he goes, then I won't shed a tear.

Whatever the club wants to do, it HAS to act fast. If they're letting him go, I want an announcement today, with a new man in charge by end of the week. We cannot afford to start slowly in the transfer market.

Decide on the future of the Head Coach, publish the retained list, get busy in the transfer market

No way will he get sacked imo. But if he did then who would be his replacement? I think it would be someone from the continent who we've never heard of.

I don't think that the club has to do anything today, let the dust settle. Monday is fine to announce the retained list and make a statement of intent for the future.
Take a decision in haste repent at leisure

I don't think LJ will be making most of the decisions on new signings, I think with the new structure he'll get what he's given. As such, I'd keep him on, as we've been round the "sack the manager" roundabout too many times already. What we do need is a young hungry squad, with the right attributes of speed, height, etc to get us out of this league. A squad of average journeymen, and an aging highly paid superstar (for this league at least) is not what we've needed.

Haven't both Speakman and Johnson already came out a few times and said that the decision will lie with Johnson.

Ok. Fair point, but we need to be smart this summer and not leave recruitment to the final weeks of pre season. It'd be nice if we were one of those teams that went out and did their business early for a change

We were supposed to have had our wanted lists for both outcomes - promotion and remaining in L1.

That being so, an announcement today wouldn't be in haste.

Delaying would actually make me lose faith in those that said we already had lists ready for each outcome.

deadline for the retained list is Wednesday fwiw
That will tell us a lot imo. If we resign ****e like we did last season with Flannagan we know what sort of season we'll be in for. Need a complete clean sweep. NONE of current senior players can say they deserve new deals as they've all collectively failed. Complete clear out and bring in new side 11-15 new players with u23's given a chance to beef up squad.

id imagine they still need to formally inform those players or finalise contracts etc. And it’s understandable if they’re all off today

Then if we had prepared lists for both eventualities we now proceed with the L1 list and get our business done.
I agree that for once we should get the majority of our business done early so that when the players report for pre season they can be drilled and know thier task and the players alongside them. If one or two players become available towards the end of the window it's a bonus

I would have had them in today. It isn't as though they need a rest to prepare for their next game! We have Euro 2020 coming up and we need to get moving quick. Get our new squad assembled ready for day 1 of pre-season training so that we can get them gelled and working together from day 1 of the season.

I reckon plan for week will look something like:

today - Speakman and KLD discuss whether to keep Johnson. Assuming yes than also today Speakman and Johnson discuss contracts

tomorrow - players in to be told about their contract decision

At that point a retained list can be announced, as you’re allowed to include out of contract players that you are still negotiating with or intend to offer a deal to.

So do you not believe SAFC when they have previously said they had already prepared lists for if we go up or stayed in L1?

I do. I just think now things are certain they’ll want to take 24 hours to confirm it, and no harm in that.

Club can be simultaneously beginning work on recruitment.

What he's saying mate is that the list will have been prepared, but the players won't have been told their own fate yet.

And I definitely reckon the players have been given the day off today. They’re human and despite what we all think about them not caring are likely hurting. Calling them in the day after to tell them they’re done, when we can give everyone an extra 24 hours to let it sink in, just seems right to me.

Frankly I wouldn’t be too surprised if everyone at the club has taken a day today to let it sink in, including KLD, Speakman and Johnson. Was **** for them yesterday. Need to be making thoughtful decisions not emotional ones.

Surely KLD will have known for a while now if he was going to keep the manager on if we lost in the play offs, which of course we have done.
