Given the vast number of advisors available to you, I hardly dare throw in my two-pennyworth when it comes to Scottish Independence, but, never-the-less, here goes.

As it stands Scotland's First Minister has been making all the running.
Might I suggest a different plan from Downing St.

Agree to a further Referendum, but with conditions.

A legally binding agreement that this would be the last on for, say fifty years.
If Scotland leaves UK, if they at some future date want to return, a referendum of the remaining countries will need to be held and there must be a majority in favour of re-admitting them.

The terms of the 'Divorce Settlement', must be agreed between the two Governments beforehand, which will need to include who pays for who's pensions.
What part of The UK National Debt Scotland takes responsibility for.
What happens to The Armed Forces and what Assets get transferred.
What currency Scotland is going to use as they will have no control of the pound sterling.
The question of The Border, hard or soft, should be agreed in advance along with trade relations and agreements.

The status of The overseas Assets, Embassies etc.
The status of The Crown in Scotland.
    Fishing Rights.

While not something to concern HM's Government, it should be suggested that Scotland's First Minister should find out in advance whether The EU will accept them as a Member, and if so when.

No doubt other heading will occur to those more familiar with this topic.
The logic, though, is simple enough.
IF the people of Scotland are going to be asked to make such an important decision, they should know in advance PRECISELY what they are voting for.

I'd vote for Scottish independence. I'd also vote for Welsh independence. Let them crack on I say, but there is no going back. If you leave, hand your keys in on the way out because I'm changing the locks.

They won’t listen. The SNP IMO are a racist bunch who hate the English, end of! I am sure that they have brought the voting age down to 16…to try to get them voting leave without fully understanding the possible consequences. I understand that there is a large minority of 16 year olds that might take umbrage with that statement, but voting at 16…..??
As a possible conspiracy theory, I also find it alarming to hear that Alex Salmond presents a show on the Russian state sponsored TV. What a great ally for Putin, who is looking to destabilise the west.
Sadly I think that it will happen, which is when Scotland will turn into a reverse of the troubles in Northern Ireland, maybe adding to the chaos when the islands around Scotland start voting to leave and join Norway. What a potential mess is heading our way.

Agree 100% with this. They really want to be careful what this wish for. But its their choice.

  5. They won't vote for it. Most Scots know that independence is going to hit them where they feel the most pain.....in their pocket.

Certainly not at the standard of living and influence they currently enjoy as a member of the United Kingdom.

If we think Brexit was a **** on, this would make it look like a walk in the park.

I'd be tempted to impose Devo Max on them. Here's your money, you run the lot. When the money runs out you have to very publicly admit it. The only way to beat the Scottish version of UKIP is to show them up for what they are - single issue charlatans who've already set Scotland back decades.

It baffles me how Scots living in the rest of the UK are not considered. I work with a Scot who doesn’t get a say because he lives in England. I bet there are hundreds of thousands of others like him in the same boat. Surely on something as big as this all Scots in the UK should get a say?

Personally I’m at the point where I want them gone, I’m absolutely fed up of hearing about it now. It started back in 2012 when Cameron and Salmond agreed to the first referendum and its been going on pretty much ever since. No doubt if they lose another one they will find some reason to hold a third referendum in a few years time. May I just say I can’t stand Sturgeon, she’s just a racist bigot who doesn’t like English people.

The really sad thing is they like to focus on battles from 700-800 years ago but ignore the fact that the Scots and English have fought and died together in massive numbers in 2 World Wars since then.

Not just in two world wars. The history of England and Scotland has been intertwined for centuries and bound ever more closely together following the coming to the throne of James I and VI (the Union of the Crowns) in 1603 and the Acts of Union in 1706 and 1707.
I saw some Glaswegian going on a while back about the Scots only being tied to us because of British Imperialism. Scots played just as big a part in the growth of the British Empire as anyone else.

An independent Scotland would be a logistical nightmare. It will all depend if they would be allowed to join the EU if they leave. If not, they'd be ****ed.

Whats baffling is that the SNP wanted to leave the UK, hence also leave the EU way back at the first referendum. That failed.
Now they claim they want to leave the UK because they have been forced to leave the EU. Leaving the EU was part of their plan a couple of years beforehand.
But what I find astonishing is, is that there must be a fair percentage of Scots who voted to stay within the UK and also voted for Brexit. They have basically won, fairly, 2 huge referendums. They are constantly being ignored by their government who are trying to push them into independence and the EU. They must be fuming! Why did they bother voting in the first place?

I understand why they are pushing for a new independence referendum now. Best time is whilst the country/world is in turmoil. Its opportunistic. If things settle down over the next decade then the SNP will have missed their chance. The SNP worry that Westminster will just keep saying no until the thirst for independence diminishes.

Another question. If the SNP wanted another referendum, why didnt they use the recent elections as a means to push it? Why didnt they basically say 'Only vote for the SNP if you want independence. If you are an SNP voter but are against independence, refrain from voting altogether.' That would certainly be putting their money where their mouth is. I wonder what % of SNP voters are against, or at least undecided, independence.

how the hell did jimmy krankie get back in?

she got the 'wrong' vote in her eyes when they all wanted to stay, since then she has slated the UK non stop and tried every way to sway the voters...she even blatantly ignored her own covid advice and set about the sexual assault charge that appeared to be based on lies, she is a power hungry media whore who MUST be in the limelight and those people can be very dangerous...the scottish people need to take extreme care here.

i also think i am not alone in thinking that the EU will throw some very strict regulations at them before accepting them in and they will lose a sight more than they expect to gain, this really could get nasty.

Some of the biggest and most zealous imperialists were Scots so that’s a bizarre thing to say.

Am I right in saying that Spain would most likely veto any Scottish attempt at joining the EU because of their own internal independence problems?

I can’t understand the desire to get away from Westminster , where they have at least a bit of influence, to be independent, whilst at the same time being desperate to surrender all to Brussels

They intend there to be a seamless transition from blaming Westminster for their failures to blaming Brussels for their failures. Otherwise there's no point in the SNP existing any more.
