He's not done that well! 30% win ratio is terrible for a side just relegated from the Prem (though ravaged as Portsmouth were, Burley did better with our crack team of flops), the one thing I'd commend him for was the deal involving Liam Lawrence which was a total steal (if you discount Dave Kitson...). Billy Davies is far too good a manager for them - he's continually been in charge of a promotion chasing team (took Preston to playoffs, got Derby promoted, Forest always in playoffs) who has been linked with Premiership clubs. He would do a good job I'm sure, but it's a matter of whether he'd want to do it.

I just think Pompey are not that good. We'll see anyway. Agreed Billy Davies is too good for them, but that's who they need. If they did get him, watch out, because within a couple of games they'd become a hard team to beat. Then he'd take them a step further.

They're not good, and doing things like wasting wage budget on crap like Benjani doesn't help!

Perhaps old "Twitchy" will return to his "spiritual home" and bring Jamie in as head coach. he could even buy them. Unfortunately the have scrapped the halfpenny coin so he will have to pay double its value at 1 penny. ah well, just when you thought there had been enough piss taking, up pops another 2 months worth. Is it me, or does anyone else think that if Pompey was a dog it would have been put down long ago?

Thought Cotterill did well for them last year...had a good run which was enough to keep them up when form dropped off. Very difficult job for somebody. They don't need a 'big name'..they need someone who's previously worked with a small budget and knows how to motivate a team and isn't called Nigel Adkins. They could always ask Nige..he likes a good laugh.

Pompey heading to league 1 i think - Cotterill was doing a great job for them, I don't think the new manager they bring in will do as well

Whether or not Cotterill is any good is beside the point. He has chosen to leave for a team below them with money and boardroom problems. It shows that Poorsmouth have no ambition.

Still can't see why the present owners bought them..what is in it for them. I can understand a fan buying a team but how can you make money out of a struggling team which needs investment. In our case, Markus got a good deal because we had a good stadium and other property. Not being nasty, but just can't work it out.

Apparrently Portsmouth reminded them of their childhood... ***Soviet Union 1980's***

I'm surprised at all the Dave Jones love on the Pompey board. Not because of his ability (I think he's a top Championship manager), but obviously because of his links to us.

I'd have thought the Saints link would have put a few of them off. Yes it's been over a decade since he left us, but there was over decade between Danny Wilson leaving Wednesday and joining United this summer, and they United fans weren't exactly happy with the appointment.

From a personal point of view, I really hope he doesn't go there. Would be very hard to continue liking him as much as I do if he's managing Pompey. For one thing, I wouldn't want to see him winning each week.

One thing I wont miss is Cotterills dour voice on Solent!. He always sounds like he wants to top himself. Mind you I suppose being in charge of that shower of s**t, who can blame him. :-)

Just a shame, because the Blue Few, may get a half decent manager!

I think it just sums up how much Pompey fans feel they need a decent manager to have any chance of staying up, regardless of where they have managed before. Redknapp for us was ex Bournemouth and Pompey and most were ok with that until he relegated us and then headed back up the road again. I can never forgive him for that. Alex Mcleish from Birmingham to Villa? It is happening more often. The other thing that I feel quite embarassed about as a Saints fan is the way the club got rid of Dave Jones. After all he was cleared of ALL charges.

I think I'm right in saying that two of our former managers (as well as Pearson) will be taking charge of a Championship team today. Obviously Stuart Gray is caretaker manager for Pompey, but I'm pretty sure that Steve Wigley has taken caretaker charge of Bristol City.

I wonder if either will get their jobs on a full-time basis? (And good luck to those teams if they do haha!!)
