Imo we need to keep in mind two things.

First fsg will always make do.

Second the club have already let be known none of the first choice forwards are going but one is coming in.

Can debate what we like about cbs but Matip has a contract out to 2024 so forget him going.

Shaqiri, origi, minamino, ox are all more likely to be available to clubs to pick up cheap. Same for grujic and Wilson and the like.

Gomez can cover trent as well so irrespective of fitness he will be useful to klopp.

I expect 2 or 3 players max in with several going and some youthful look to things as well.

Alisson, kelleher (if klopp forgives)
Trent Williams.
Konate matip gomez
Vvd (this is going to be an issue)
Robertson tsimikas
Fabinho (another issue here)
Henderson jones
Thiago Milner
Salah Elliott
Firmino . Someone in
Mane jota.

Not sure about keita as he will be hard to shift. Ox is open to offers

The konate rumour is specific enough and without the scatter gun approach so I think he will

Have they? When was this and what was actually said?

Also, we've not told the truth about transfers once since Klopp arrived <laugh>

This is about my expectation. I think Keita, Ox and Matip will stay, mainly because I don't see anyone buying them for a price that FSG will accept. Shaqiri, Wilson, Origi, Minamino, Grujic all more likely to go I reckon. Possibly Philips and Williams.

Konate looks 90% likely imo; if he comes, the only other defender I could really see coming is Kabak.

One (probably) or two (hopefully) attackers and that will be about it.

That one obviously being Mbappe <whistle>

P.S. you forgot Davies...

Yes we have.

We said we were not interested in pepe and you lot jump up and down like spoiled children all summer and then he turned out to be dogshite.

Theres a few that will get general comments out of people on topics and it was said a couple weeks back that nobody was being let go out of the front 3 but some competition for places would be added.

We a know origi and shaqiri just offer a.means to give someone 20mins off when a game is won but the.front 3 are so bad current fly they hardly ever get us to that point

Not to be cynical but, what else would you expect the club to say? They're not going to declare that we're flogging x, y or z are they?

I get you, that is fair. There is a difference between saying nothing at all and just letting it be known the three will be there :emoticon-0148-yes:

Let's face it though it's hardly complex maths to see the elite clubs wont be too interested

I think we'll sell one of the front three if the opportunity arises, but as you say, whos buying?

Yeah, unless PSG have a go for one nobody else will be interested imo anyway. Barca might offer 50mil for salah as a joke though. then try sell coutinho for 60.

Saw a rumour of then offering a straight swap, Salah for Mbappe. I'd take that but obviously bullshit.

:emoticon-0140-rofl:

if they are willing to swap a 250million 22 year old for a 29 year old now worth 60million fire away.

Salah is suddenly agitating for a new contract with us as well tells me that nobody is chatting him up.

With only a year left on his contract...

Actually been impressed with Phillips. Now he’s never going to be a top class CB but given he’s almost been the senior CB for half the season despite only really having a year or two experience in Germany second division I think he’s acquitted himself well.

He’s no vvd or Gomez and obviously his pace is an issue, but I feel a lot safer when people put crosses in with him in the box. Think he’s made himself a decent Prem career with his performances so far this season. Someone like Burnley, Newcastle, Palace level where isn’t going to be expected to defend high or be playing 50 yard diagonals but can stand deep and head and block things.

Fair play to the guy, think biggest compliment can give is, when he’s not played in the last few months we’ve missed him and without him we wouldn’t be close to having a shout of top 4

Can't think of a header he's missed. He is what he is. I'd truly prefer him to Lovren as our fourth choice CB, and he's the same level as Klavan. Our problem is though that, as you allude to, we will never adapt our formations or tactics to what we have, so he would carve out a better career at another Prem side, or a top Championship side. Good luck to him: he's worked hard and has the bearing of a guy who doesn't think the game owes him a lving.

Imo he's earned the right to stay if he wants to - but when we sort the position out he'll only ever be a fall-back option.
It might be better for him to go somewhere where he'll be a regular starter because I think he deserves that.
He's never seen a cross he doesn't like and he'd be a bloody hero in a team that defends deep.

He's earnt the right to be the next Conor Coady. Decent career at mid-Prem level club. Certainly nothing to be ashamed of.

Nice sentiment but that’s what got us stuck with Origi. <whistle>

Reality is that we will be scratching around for players with a very low budget so I do expect him to stay.

I don't think of it as sentiment. We're never going to have 4 CBs of a similar level to Virgil and keep them all happy. The lower ones are of necessity going to be less talented, and I think Phillips is decent enough for that. I don't know how people think we can have anyone much better than he who would be content to be a bit-part player.
Having said that, as I've already mentioned I think he'd do well elsewhere, and probably get a better career out of it.
In the meantime we'll be stuck with playing hugely inexperienced lads like Williams or dropping midfielders into the role.
We could do a lot worse than Phillips - and probably will.

I doubt we’ll have one other defender at Virgils level tbh. But we should aim for 3 other defenders at The level of Gomez or Matip......Nat isn’t at that level imo. Happy for him to stay as CB5 and given our luck, he’ll still get plenty of game time.

What I would say is this: VVD is a rolls royce type defender. What you want is not two rollers, you want a really solid man there with him.

If we look at cheslea, i saw stupid chavs giving rudiger dogs abuse and hoping he would go. the instant fat frank was dispensed with tuchel puts rudiger back in and they fly, but they ALSO have Azpi and that guy is the most rock solid honest to god defenders you will ever see.

There has to be a few Azpi types floating around Spain that would suit klopp down to the ground.

Nat phillips for me is an old school defender that would suit solskjaer and a deep lying defence ;) you know one of those stone age coaches. I hope he has a great career now but its not under klopp and the way he wants and needs to defend to have the best over all team plan IMO.

For me gomez relies on pace too much, he's got mistakes in him and he also gets caught in two minds and backs off which is fatal in the system. He backed off v atletico last season and cos tus the game after we got the lead. That CL was wide open for us if we could have held them out.

Matip just can't stay fit but i think he has the brain we are talking about if not the pace. He knows what klopp wants in the game and how to get close and when.
