Personally id have had him in the first team setup ages ago. Its not even possible for him to do any worse than what we've got now.

He made quite a few appearences in Hartlepools first team. A lot of SAFC players have played like they are non league standard. Give him a chance i'd say. However reading johnsons comments about not being physically ready strike me as the usual manager excuses. Hope i'm wrong and he gets to prove himself but expect him to move on 'untried'

Yes exactly. Phil Fodens 2 years younger than him and built like a Jockeys whip. Hes not doing a bad job is he :emoticon-0112-wonde.

The same could be said about Hawkes though mate, thats my point. He's going on about him needing to have an adults frame, but Foden for example is of small stature.
On the flip side we have Younger whos built like a brick shyte house, but Johnson would rather play lads out of position instead of giving him a go aswell.

He seems afraid to take risks in my opinion.

many say that we, as fans, are in no position to judge as we do not get to see the players in training etc...my thoughts are if the current lot are THAT good in training then what happens to them when they walk out on match day, no one can blame the fans for giving them a hard time for every single mistake this season so that excuse has gone with the wind now.

the little i have seen of the young lads this season when thrown into the 1st team has shown me they are more than capable and not a single one of them has let himself or the team down, so i am also wondering why they have not had far more game time, especially as most of the season we have struggled on with one striker who hit a lucky purple patch and kept free of injury but never really had us thinking he was more likely to score than not.

If we were in the premier league, we would be crying out for these lads to go on loan to league one, league two etc.

Now we’re here they don’t seem to get that much of a sniff. Obviously I don’t know how a club is run, or what the rules are, or if taking them leaves the reserves short or whatever, but surely if these lads aren’t good enough for league one now, they’re not going to have a future with the club?

As much as I want the lad playing his part in the first team, I also wanted Ryan Noble probably even more as (IMO) that level was tougher then! Noble didn’t make it at any level after leaving - not even in amateur leagues and a lot of us slated the manager when he left!! He just wasn’t good enough.

of course, we were playing at a much higher level back then, but he still failed even at the level we are now. That’s why I’m reticent to blame a manager outright until the whole story is known. Be that with Hawkes playing first team for us, first team in the premier league or with another lower league team, or simply disappearing into obscurity like most do.

True, Nobles life away from football prevented him from making the grade apparently. We still saw him come off the bench though and that was in the Premier league. Look at how much a difference James McClean made when he finally got a chance from the bench against Blackburn when we looked pretty much doomed for relegation that season.
I think someone like Hawkes could have had a similar effect for us this last month or so, and maybes even in the Playoffs if he is allowed a chance to show what he can do. Like i said he cant possible do any worse than Scowen and co.

No one thinks that they will all make it, the point is none of them will without being given the chance, and our coach is ignoring a groundswell of opinion that he has made mistakes in overlooking our U23 squad. It will be his downfall in my opinion unless he starts to back up his rhetoric with some positive results. He loaned Embleton out because he thought he wasn't good enough, I think he was wrong, and I think he has been wrong about Olly Younger, as he should have replaced Sanderson in the back line imo. Not playing Neil and Patterson has been another failing, and now not recognising Hawkes, and earlier Curry, he has a bit of form in this respect. Yes its all down to opinion, but I am beginning to wonder if he couldn't be the one disappearing into obscurity.

It is a bit “rock, hard place” though. As fans we want the youngsters brought in. I’m certainly not arguing that point. The little I’ve seen of them I think they’d have no issues doing the job. But if they come in and fail, the manager possibly loses his job. I’m being very much devil’s advocate here mind. I don’t know enough about any of them to know whether they’re capable or good enough. I have to go on what I’ve seen. Younger, Neil both look good enough. Hopefully we’ll find out. If we succeed with what we have (which, for all intents and purposes, Johnson has so far as we were heading for mid table obscurity under Parkinson) then so be it.

Does it matter? Most of his goals were headers! You simply can’t score 30 goals without someone providing the ammunition fir you. It’s impossible. And he doesn’t take penalties. I think it’s crazy saying he was “lucky” to get those goals. Did you say the same about Bent? He was very much a right place right time man. Wonder what Wyke has to do to get the recognition he deserves

is it just me you like to have a pop at or is it just the way you type?

cant say i have followed your posts but you do tend to come across rather 'sharp' when replying to me...i was not slagging the bloke off and his goals are, of course, more than welcome but he just has never instilled the same confidence as the likes of bent or skp for example, yes they all had goals provided but you also knew they could create their own chances at times..being in the right place at the right time is a handy skill to have and is not all 'guess work' as some try to say but the truth is we have had to rely on him as others were not scoring yet the young lads have not been given even half a chance (which was/is my point, not if wyke is actually very good or just lucky)

I'm not sure where we are heading under this coach and that's the worry, Parky fooled nobody, this guy could sell pork chops in Palestine. But can he build a team, the evidence is so far is debatable. If they don,t come in, and the team fails the manager looses his job, and we are back to square one KTF

I realise that we haven't seen eye to eye on this subject previously, so I don't want you to think I'm having a pop but I don't think Johnson, on his own, will be building the team. Under the new set up, it will surely be a committee thing.
