They were only deducted the following season because they couldn't be releagted if a points dedustion was applied that season rendering the punishment worthless if i recall correctly
Just googled it ...
Sheffield Wednesday have been deducted 12 points by an independent disciplinary panel for the 2020-21 season for breaking spending rules.
They breached rules by including the sale of their Hillsborough Stadium home in their 2017-18 accounts despite the ground being sold a year later.
But they were cleared of "breaching its duty of utmost good faith to the EFL by deliberately concealing information".
The Owls say they are "extremely disappointed" by the points deduction.
If the points deduction had been imposed on the Yorkshire side for the recently completed 2019-20 season, they would have finished bottom of the Championship and been relegated.

Must have been someone else they held off the points deduction for. Sure it was only in the last few years.

Do you remember when we went up in 1990 due to the Swindon Lou macari situation, well had the f a worked faster we could have avoided that play off final all together, and they claimed sheff wed should have stayed up in the first div instead of us going up. It is on youtube. Wigan lost 12 points last season, they finished 13th in the championship but went down. Wycombe will stop up now on a technicallity most likely ! no, Derby might lose points next season. Sheff w would have been better off losing them points the previous season.

They deserve everything the get if they are deducted points. The owner selling the ground to himself is only what is in the public domain, imagine what else he's tried to do to get around stuff. The Wayne Rooney wages is another dodgy piece of business, having a sponsor pay him is utterly ridiculous!

On a serious note what actually happened with them and MSD?

Nobody's sure, the loan was against the club and its assets, similar to the FPP loan to Donald. My guess is that its still there and would have to be paid back if they get taken over.

Personally I hope they get a points deduction on next season, just to make sure Wycombe go down. They are the kind of ****y lucky club that would just be lucky enough to survive but stink the league out again next year, and Derby are poor enough that if they stay up they'll struggle again next year.

Cheers, all their football involvement has been murky at best.
I agree about Derby. Give them a deduction next year!

Murky, but incompetent! They didn't hide it very well and have been caught out pretty quickly. They look like they've deliberately under valued their playing squad so they could inflate their transfer budget, makes you wonder how they thought they'd get away with it. Almost seems like they took a leaf from Donald's business plans!
