Obviously not ideal place but agree with others that your probably not an alcoholic, so for example my family member thought it was the norm to have cornflakes for breakfast with a glass of brandy & when challenged over it replies as in its only one. spirit bottles hidden all over, just continue with the steps you have made & you will be ok.

like say think a lot of people over the last year with lockdown will be in similar boat
Define a alcoholic please

Do posters realise they are dicing with a man's life on here?
When someone says "you are probably not a alcoholic" or " it's just a phase" even "just try and cut it down" these are the type of replies a alcoholic loves. Music it to their ears as they will take the easier softer way every time. I have seen far too many die from this terrible disease and know how bad advice kills.
Thank God there was no social media 26 yrs ago or I would have probably been dead by now.
If you have trouble with Alcohol, get professional help or join a self help group as these have been/going through the same problems.
If you find you are not a alcoholic that's fine, if you realize you are then you will be in with a chance

Define a alcoholic please

Without wanting to get into an argument as it won't be beneficial.
An alcoholic is dependent on alcohol.
I thought I was an alcoholic and so does my mrs still. :D
I saw an expert who said I wasn't an alcoholic but I am an excessive drinker.
I'm going to abstain from drinking tonight.

The main thing is chunk has sought help for his problems so regardless of what he is, hopefully he gets sorted now before it escalates.

I say problems as it's pretty obvious he's finding it hard to cope with all the stresses and demands in his life.

Some decent counciling for a start.
Time for him and his mrs to look forward to etc.
People on here with disabled children may know of helpful organizations.
The council for instance have to help.

I imagine some people are too scared or proud to ask for help but end up bogged down with no time to enjoy themselves and then it spirals.
Anyways am waffling.
Good luck to the lad and hopefully he gets sorted.

I do thin Dred hits upon a good point though. Seek professional help and the non professionals around Chunk (and it includes us) need to be there for support and comfort.

Be it a friendly ear or an comforting smiley thingy but it's a dangerous game deciding what the right advice is. I myself offered some as it was relevant to my situation without thinking whether it was relevant to Chunks.

Fight the good fight Chunk, get professional help and lean on us for Salma pics and banter

Without a doubt good luck to the lad and I am pleased he realises he has a problem. It's like you say get professional help or as in my case a self help group. This was my preference as they were with me 24/7

Think most have advised him to seek professional help mate and he has contacted two organisations.
Anyone with disabled children on here who might be able to share support groups and entitlement. ?

Anything to ease the pressures of work and the strain at home to give him and his mrs time out and relax.

Thanks everyone for the posts and support, it's going to be a long road but one I'm determined to get to the end of.

I spent a restless night with my thoughts and woke up this morning with a clear thought "small steps, keep moving forward". It's the saying we as a family used when dad was close to death in hospital 2 years ago and somehow found the strength to recover from the brink.

Found a headset out and I am going to sit in on an online meeting tonight and see how it goes, I'm a naturally shy person so online meetings where I can switch the camera off will help me get started.

I might come across as a bit harsh but having gone through it my self and after working in re-habs for a number of years it is something dear to my heart

No that's fair comment.
I think I remember you posting about it on RTG.
I said I don't think chunk is an alcoholic as he said he can't stand spirits, but likes a beer or a bottle of wine.
I'll have all three some nights and been told I'm not an alcoholic lol.
The thing is he's worried about his excessive drinking and has sought help so that's a good step. He needs help and counciling to sort out the root of the problems too now before it escalates.

Just as with drugs, you can be a functioning (at least for a period) alcoholic.

Well done for taking the first steps mate. All the best for the road ahead, you'll get through it and be a stronger person at the end of it.
