A 3 game ban seems over the top but given how he massively underperformed in South Africa and has never really played for England like he has Man United it might not be all bad news. I don't expect us to win it regardless of Rooney playing or not, but it gives the likes of Welbeck, Sturridge and Ashley Young a chance to show what they can do.

I haven't seen the incident so does anyone have a link to it (I'd youtube it but Rooney red card foul will bring up too may entries :p ). Based on that description though Rooney could have stopped himself committing the foul but chose not to? Is that not intentionally kicking an oppponent, which would really be violent conduct and a 3 game ban would be the normal punishment.

The 3 games in the PL is the ban for violent conduct, being last man just gets you 1 game doesn't it? I would imagine the standard over here is for a 1 game ban with a 2 match extension for violent conduct but it just gets referred to as a 3 match ban by managers and the media because you can usually safely say if someone has been sent off for violent conduct that it is violent conduct and we just don't hear about it when it's confirmed. In this case wasn't Rooney's letter explaining that he didn't think it was intentional and should just be whatever a foul would be without the VC addition?

So three quarters of the post think it's alright for the snivelling little toe rag to kick anybody when he's having a bad game. I didn't see that he was playing until he got sent off

I agree it was so premeditated it was ridiculous. Remember Beckam with his silly leg-up tap that got him sent off. Rooney is a selfish child clown for what he did...no excuse. Just a pity the rest of the team and their chances have been damaged. Lets hope someone steps up to the plate next year and keeps him out of the team after the three games. Oxo anyone? :)

Not read the thread for which I apologise but violent conduct is a three game ban here so it should be for uefa. Have to say the only way he'll learn is a heavy punishment and for me that means leave him at home. He let his team down so why should they fight to get is through a group only for Rooney to come back in.

If Johnny Foreigner had kicked one of our players we would be demanding that UEFA throw the book at him. Rooney is thick as **** and always will be.

At least Maybe Sturridge will get a chance now.

Though i'm disgusted with the 3 match ban, it does lead to the question should Fabio take Rooney now to Euro 2012

unlike the world cup, your guaranteed a strong team in your group at the euros, there is no guarantee england will qualify,...look at the struggle they had qualifying from that so called easy group at the world cup.
i dont think you can plan for the knockout stages as a formailty, and a squad has to be picked with the aim of progressing first and foremost.

Wasn't we all slagging Guthrie off for doing exactly the same to ***an against Newcastle 3 seasons ago. We can't have it both ways. Rooney is an excellent footballer but also a libility. This isnt the first time he has lost the plot. Remember against Ronaldo in the 2006 world cup. I wouldn't have him in the squad for the Euros now. **** him.

As far back as I can remember foreign teams had cheats, Italy were the worlds worst at one point both at club and international level. Then there were the South American's who were just like the Italian's but more so. But England, always seemed to try and play by the rules, remember Ramsey calling Argentina 'animals'?

Rooney is just the latest of a long line of England players who have been led up the garden path by these foreign shysters, Chopper Harris, Norman Hunter, Nobby Stiles, Brian Labone, were constantly caught out by the then 'dying swans' of the game who would roll over a dozen times at the slightest tap on the ankles. Seems like we will never learn and pay the consequences for it.

You can't really compare Harris, hunter and those who played the game that way to Rooney who just lost his temper and kicked out at an opposition player just because he didn't get his own way, theres no other way of reading it apart from him behaving like a petulant kid. Unless of course I'm missing your point.

i dont know if the ban is harsh or not its not the worst incident you will see,its not on the same level as guthries errr tackle on ***an but it was violent conduct so 3 game ban is about right i suppose.i think they should appeal...its worth the risk of an extra games ban for the chance of gettin it reduced to 2-1 game at best. does anyone know the answer to this....say capello doesnt take rooney to the euros will the ban still count in the euros or would it carry over to the world cup qualifiers as he wasnt selected in the squad???

It should count even if he's left out. Otherwise on the same principle when players were suspended during qualification you would have to name them in the squad for the next qualifier to serve the ban.

I know it's domestic football rather than international, but someone recently moved clubs in January and had I think it was a 2 game ban to serve. Their new club was playing in the League Cup that week, and even though they were cup tied that game counted towards the ban.

that makes sense...i would take rooney he may do the odd rash thing every now an again but he is one of the few genuine world class players we have in my opinion an if we get passed the group stage he will without doubt be needed

Having just seen a replay I don't know how anyone can say he was going for the ball. Clear red card, a clear 3 match ban for violent conduct, and the opponent had every right to exaggerate it. If you were out in town and some knobhead came up and kicked you while there was a copper walking past, knowing you couldn't turn round and smack him back without getting arrested yourself wouldn't you make a meal of it?
