I actually prefer the league cup to the FA cup.

Fair play to Gundogan who has now come out and criticised the new CL format. Brilliant

Nice deflection away from the fact that his club had signed up to sack it off next season.

You’ll be telling me next he was crying about the extra games

I was asked for an alternative and provided 2 times per sunday which I should have said meant no 3pm match was required.

I presume you are another who believes the entire continent of asia is a myth and everyone loves getting up at 5am of a saturday to travel to an away game.

No, you said the Sunday times could have been replicated on Saturdays.

They can’t, as there’s 3pms in the EFL & PL every normal game week of the season, you were just plain wrong.

The PL sold packages for the early Saturday KO and the early evening Saturday KO, as they couldn’t overlap the 3pms and Saturday night wasn’t seen as being a popular slot at the time. The decision to broadcast more games was about extending the offering across the weekend. That’s it.

Any perceived benefit in foreign markets is simply a by product of that fact and not the reason it came about, it’s really not complicated.

I don’t understand why it’s hard to believe that when making a decision on when to put new games on that the they would take all things into account. 1 being when is it suitable and a free slot for uk watchers... oh and it’s also very handy for the Asian market that’s a nice benefit.

certsinly more beneficial than playing it at say 9pm

heck if you want to squeeze more games in, why not play at 10am then? No one plays then.

no one is saying that they only chose the time slot to fit the Asian market. But if you can please 2 sets of fans by playing games at a certain time, compared to at a diff time which only benefits 1 set, it’s common sense to maximise your viewing by going for the former.

Evening all. Long time no see.

Obviously your Owners have been caught with their hands in the cookie tin. Obviously the fans are innocent and as aggrieved as the rest of football (five others excepted). Obviously there needs to be some form of penalty. And obviously a lot of non Liverpool fans want a hanging three times over.

Would be genuinely interested to hear what you think would be an appropriate penalty. Fine? Points deduction? Demotion (how far)? Or a combo?

For me the PL need to look at all previous Club offences and penalties imposed, not just Liverpool. That would set the yardstick and take it from there.

Without my having bothered to look I believe the penalty has to fit the crime and would be saying a fine together with a points deduction of say of 18 points (6 clubs times 3 points) and a ban from European competition for one year for the late comers and two years for the schemers.

Anyway I wish you no luck at all on Saturday against Brucie’s Entertainers.

The way I see it is why should the team and manager have to pay the penalty for the owners nonsense, we've played the season badly at times and may or may not get into the top 4. I can't see why the team and also the fans should be punished. Haven't we put up with enough over this?

Here's an idea, you get money for your final position in the PL put a fictional points deduction in place so that we get the financial package of finishing in that position. Something like that.

I can see your point re Manager, players and fans but that hasn’t stopped other Clubs being penalised for the Owners screwing up in the past by points deductions and demotions. There has to be consistency with the past although not sure if there ever has been a similar offence committed in the past to be consistent with.

It’s a tough one for the PL to get right.

I agree it's a tough call. For me on this occasion punish the owners financially. Unfortunately that will still affect the team come the transfer window, but at least the current squad isn't punished.

Two key reasons mate. The Asian market only makes up around 11-12% of the total PL TV revenue.

Secondly the argument that the 2 Saturday fixtures were created either specifically for or even largely influenced by this market, just isn’t true, they decided to sell the additional game slots as the domestic TV companies wanted them. 3 pm Saturday was out of bounds for U.K. broadcasters due to the clash with EFL, and multiple other PL games being played in that slot.

What those arguing that it was to suit the Asian markets have seemingly not quite grasped, is that Asian markets actually cried their eyes out and asked for a rebate from the PL last year., as when all games were agreed to be screened during COVID, broadcasters didn’t want the overlap, which only left one PL game max, in the 3 pm slot.Which usually has up to 6 games playing at that time i..e all of the games not selected for the broadcasters paid for slots

As it’s the 3pm Saturday slot that was their preferred choice, as they can offer choice of games for that slot for prime Saturday night viewing . As the foreign broadcasters aren’t restricted by the same 3pm blockout, as so can show all of the PL offerings in that time slot.

Because that's how it works in football? Pretty sure I wasn't at fault when we went into administration like.

Tough one this and I think nothing should be done in haste.

The first action should be the PL setting up a judge lead review of the case against all 6 clubs with regards to the rules the PL are adamant they’ve contravened. Those being rule L9 around the agreeing to join a new competition without prior approval of the board & rule B15 which is in matters of transactions relating to the league every club shall behave towards every other club and the league itself with the utmost good faith.

As part of that review full disclosure should be insisted on, emails, letters, dates and minutes of meetings etc. So the entire ****show has some transparency in terms of who was leading it, and over what period of time. As for me, the entire ‘Big Picture’ proposal is also completely tied into this, as given what we now know, it was an obvious precursor to their move to set up the ESL. As had that proposal been accepted, they’d have been able to escape any consequence due to the enhanced voting rights they felt they deserved. The cynicism of this obvs plan makes their actions in relation to the ESL far worse imo, as they were patently plotting this for a long period of time.

In terms of a punishment, I’m not buying ‘you can’t punish the fans’ shouts. Tell that to the many clubs fans who’s clubs have faced draconian measures due to their boards corporate governance failures. Points deductions, relegations, transfer embargoes, expulsion from the league etc. You can’t effectively punish a football club without fans being in some way on the end of it, it is what it is.

Agree in the main with this.

Not sure the Big Picture was a precursor to this. Agree it was a power grab and that this was as well. However City and Chelsea seem to be claiming they were only contacted “last minute” in regard to this but do seem to have been involved in the BP. Obviously this has been ongoing for a long time and is another effort by the so called Big Six to “stabilise “ football (read guarantees their income).

I would punish the Clubs who initiated this action, as opposed to the “followers” more heavily than the others. A European ban is a definite for me with regard to any punishment meted out to any and all of the Clubs involved.

Think there is a massive difference between governance failures of a club and businesses rightly or wrongly trying to ‘earn’ more money exploring different routes.

this is where the colours of the fans will shine through, i’ll call it the neville effect for now.

where things like clubs going bankrupt/ into administration are concerned the rules clearly define what the punishments will be. In which case somewhere in the many thousands of paragraphs there will be a line which dictates what the punishment for the six club will be if they break the rule associated with what they have done.

if there is no line or fixed punishment already then there could be an argument that they have not done anything wrong. (Not a view i subscribe to)
All going to be interesting, i still don't think the idea is dead in the water, this next phase could easily be the catalyst.

Perez has stated this has been worked on since 2018, so I’m not sure I’m buying the “the bigger boys made me do it” angle tbh mate. Some may have only actually signed in the days before the announcement, but I’m not having that they weren’t involved for a long period before this broke cover. You don’t sign a 177 page contract on something of this magnitude without having had plenty of time to consider your position and make a strategic decision.

I may be wrong about the Big Picture stuff, but I doubt it, having read it all back through on Monday / Tuesday it truly boiled my piss tbph. A judge lead review could get to the bottom of it, and it is uncovering the true depth of the wilful deceit that is paramount here imo. We need all of those involved to be fully exposed. If they try hiding behind NDA’s then they should face greater sanction. As it should be made clear, that any potential litigation from a failed project should be considered the lesser of the two evils of failure to cooperate fully with the inquiry.

My own view, is that once the full gory details of their plotting is out in the open, then their positions as custodians of clubs within our game will become completely untenable. We can change the rules in order to try and stop anything like this happening again, or at least have the sanctions for trying it, made crystal clear and extremely draconian. But those behind this attempt have no place in our game moving forwards anyway, or shouldn’t have, so let’s see them truly squirm, as the lid is lifted. I’d enjoy that tbh.
