Feel Pearson is being a bit harsh with him - after his 4 goals, has he had a single minute on the pitch?

Not even been used as a sub, even today when we'd only used 2 subs and our front 2 had barely been in the game during the second half, he still doesn't get a chance.

Can anyone think why? Only other reason I can think of, is his deal to us from Arsenal is in lots of different 'add-on's', so perhaps we're being tight and only using him now if we really need to?

I don't get it either dazzar..

Fair enough Fryatt & Mclean pick themselves plus I reckon they're both very fit players..

If the front two weren't in the game that's more because of midfield so that'll probably be why NP went for a change of winger plus I'm certain he prefers Barmby's workrate as a sub..

He does deserve a chance though as he risks going off the boil..

i believe that the original fee of £50k rises to £350k after so many games (15 was mentioned some time ago I think?) Can anyone confirm? Apart from Mr Pearson of course. The other thing I would add is that as fans, the one thing we dont see is the training pitch and the 'in-the-building' environment.

well he's made 19 appearances so far.. scoring 4

now that we're not in financial bother anymore I don't think add-ons will be an issue.. especially with Jimbo out on loan..

I think he's still in pearsons plans. Its been clear Pearson doesn't make substitutions just for the sake of it and he's clearly content with fryatt and McLean so hasn't been making changes. Its no bad thing having Simpson as back up, I still rate him personally

the thing is, i reckon simpson would not be a direct replacement for either fryatt or maclean. his work rate is not maclean, and his hold up play is not fryatt. at the moment, it aint bust so dont try to mend it. however, he still has plenty to offer with the right players around him. and i think you have to remember that mr pearson's machine will need a tinker at some point in the near future. with two difficult away games next week, although i do not think that the wheels will fall off as such, 1 point from the next 6 for instance might enforce at least one change

Yeah I think we were agreeing to be fair, there will come a point where he wants something slightly different and thats where simpsons can step forward. A rotation of the three might even prove to be the long term strategy

I rate Simpson, it's just a shame that he took so long to find his scoring boots. He's like a poor mans Johann Elmander - He'll go an age without hitting the back of the net, then have a sudden purple patch in which he'll get a few goals and play out of his skin.

    history rewrite or forgetful poster?
    18 dec city 2-0 bristol c simpson 2
    26 dec sheff u 2-3 city simpson 2 bullard
28 dec city 1-1 reading simpson taken off after 84min
1 jan city 0-1 leicster simpson taken off after 68min
3 jan portmouth 2-3 city simpson replaced by fryatt after 60min goals from bullard fryatt barmby
8 jan city 2-3 wigan simpson replaced after 61min by barmby goals both from barmy
so several single minutes since last goals. 15 points from 7 games and you want a striker whose scored in 2 of his 21 appearences. he'll get another chance.

I agree with what mussey has said, I dont really see how simpson would play that well with either fryatt or mclean the only player he has looked good with has been stewart, so unless we change both upfront which there is no need to do at the minute, I cant see him getting in.

But like I mentioned, it wasn't happening for McLean and Fryatt in the second half yesterday - a second goal would have killed them off, so why wasn't Simpson brought on to try a different approach?

Hence the question asking if he'd had any minutes on the pitch since his goals, as it didn't seem like he had.

I don't think you can take Mclean or Fryatt out of the team at the moment.

NP asked him to warm up yesterday when Mclean looked like he might have had an injury around the 60-70 minute mark, so it seems like only a matter of time before he will get his chance.
