The time must surely be close at hand when someone makes a decision on whether our new manager will sign up for a longer term and will it be him or the board that answers that question? The results under his short tenure have been poor and although I expected him to improve the situation it begs the question if the problem actually lies with probably one of the poorest excuses for a football team at Ashton Gate for years or whether his coaching methods fell short of the remit? Pearson is the most recognized name at the helm for a long time and although he walked in to the situation with open eyes I wonder what he must now be thinking when it comes down to a viable future based on the squad he inherited? It is clearly visible from the moon that whoever is in charge next season has the unenviable task of sorting out the mess that has built up over several seasons of misspending and allowing the cream of the crop to leave, albeit for good fees, only to be replaced by sub-standard players who aren't fit for purpose or wearing the Bristol City shirt. The task at hand is difficult at best and we all want our beloved team to do better but I am concerned at where we might go should Pearson leave and the historical hiring practices return to fore. There could be difficult times ahead that could be lightened by someone making the decision in the next week or so regarding our manager, but if we leave it on the sideline any longer I fear that we may end up with yet another less than capable substitute. Personally I don't think we can lose by offering Nigel a 2 year deal and then hope he get's the freedom to rebuild the squad in his image made up of players he can trust to do the job.
Convinced he will, but he needs a complete overhaul. Can't see him getting enough backing to be anything other than mid table next year, at best. With prevailing circumstances the 3 teams who come down must have a great chance of bouncing straight back.
Brooksy, I concur with your comment on the commitment side of this issue because if he is allowed to leave without a murmur then it will be back to business as usual, which won't be good. For the first time we have the opportunity to sign a well grounded manager with lots of contacts within football that for me would be a great potential asset moving forward, but if he decides to leave then a whole new can of worms will open up and the sight might get ugly. Getting Nigel to sign up is one thing but allowing him to clear the dense fog that has surrounded our dealings could prove to be a bridge too far. A complete package needs to be offered which should state the dynamics of his position and who he has to convince when it comes down to bringing in new players to stop the rot because without that vital component he might decide to move elsewhere which could become available any day between now and the end of the season. Make your decision Steve and accept that we will back you both.
With all of the rumours that Ashton is about to depart, we need a strong, experienced man at the helm to step up, SL maybe playing a hand like 'Cool Hand Luke' with Nige, I hope it's a positive one. We don't want any form of compensation going Ashtons way, maybe he is working a notice period. Surely, all will be revealed soon.
Just throwing this out there, as we are all saying NP must stay. And I would like to see what he can do with in the transfer window. But let’s all be honest, the football is still boring at the moment. And I’m confused as hell as to why we’ve not confined Diedhiou to the under 23 squad, after all there is no value in playing him anymore. What if SL’s plan was to get Eddie Howe in and had to play the waiting game till this summer? Howe himself said he wants out of the game for a bit. Or as publicly known SL wanted Steve Gerrard last summer, but Gerrard said that he wanted one crack at winning the SPL before leaving Rangers? SL did state that there was someone that he wanted but the timing was not right for that person. I’m not implying or in the know but I still find it strange that Holden was employed and on a rolling year contract. Big gamble but we was top half for the past 3 seasons with same squad and same coach knowing how to train them. RR also said earlier that he thinks Howe was on the cards. Would people still say he’s got no ambition?
It’s important to remember that it’s not only up to Steve L that Nigel stays. The man himself has a say too. He may CHOOSE to leave.
However if there is truth in this, I will then be in agreement that there is no real ambition https://the72.co.uk/230592/coventry-city-boss-mark-robins-linked-with-bristol-city-job/
Ashton Could be on the move sooner than expected. Sources: Further details on Mark Ashton’s move from Bristol City to Ipswich Town revealed https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/s...e-from-bristol-city-to-ipswich-town-revealed/
2 pros and 2 cons as Bristol City consider 51-year-old as new manager ahead of 2021/22 season https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/2...r-old-as-new-manager-ahead-of-2021-22-season/ I think somebody is **** stirring, it would be suicidal to appoint Robins as manager, he is no better than LJ except he has managed to get a team promoted from level 3 upto 2, (perhaps he is better on second thoughts) Nige now knows the squad, the dross he inherited and the benefits, he is experienced at Premier level, SL should assist MA out of the gate and quickly appoint Nige he will sort out the out of contracts, use his contacts to create a new squad, improve the re-hab, bring back a higher morale level, respect for our club and pride in the shirt. He is exactly what the job requires, a perfect fit.
The sooner Lansdown comes out and says the club is up for sale. JL said he doesn’t want to be tied to the club for the next thirty years and SL is looking to get out. Time for the new owners and the football club can move forward. NP over Robbins without a doubt. Back to square one if that happens.
Why is everyone on here so convinced that Pearson is the right guy? I'm not saying that he is not; however, for me, the main benefit that we all thought NP would bring is that he would shake the team up and get amongst them, and put some fight into them. I am yet to see any of those traits brought to this side by him. Now it might be that NP doesn't want to go in too hard to fast as he's on a short term contract, but look at from SL's point of view, he will say NP has hardly had the team tearing up the division since he was appointed, so wouldn't he wait and see what is on offer in the next couple of months? I still think NP could do a good job for us with time to add players that reflect his way of playing. Funnily enough, I was listening to the Leicester game today when driving, and one of the pundits (didn't catch his name) was saying how much credit NP should get for Leicester's success a few years ago, as he said he installed the mentality of a team and squad where everyone played for and looked after each other on and off the pitch, bringing a real team and brotherhood ethos to the club, that was a key element in them driving on to win the Premier League. If NP can find those players and instil that same mentality we will do well. What we don't know is, do most of the current squad have what he's looking for but they are drifting to the end of the season or not? I think pre-season with NP in charge will be pivotal in deciding who stays and goes.
Don't talk for all, talk for yourself, I agree with Steve Lansdown and not you, LJ failed and deserved the sack, we deserve something better, you might not, I believe Nigel Pearson is a much better candidate, you don't, I support Bristol City FC not Sunderland, I don't give a toss about LJ, get over it.
Check my post, I never mentioned LJ at all, not even in a veiled tone, once again it was you who brings him up. So maybe you need to get over it/him?
I am not worried mate, you know the truth, you had great faith and believed in the guy, he has gone and you've had the needle about it ever since, you can deny it or be clever about it, I just want NP to get a contract and get our club back on the rails.
[QUOTE="wizered, post: 14797246, member: 1000754 I agree with Steve Lansdown. Blimey you agree with Steve Lansdown that's a first, didn't agree when he appointed LJ, didn't agree when he appointed DH but you agree with him about NP, now looking at his record it's no different than the last two so what makes you think he's any better, he will only stay at our club with total control of players coming in and players going out, now do you think Mr Lansdown will give him that control dream on.
You at it again, you have no idea what terms and conditions Steve Lansdown and Nigel Pearson will agree, they agreed a short term contract with him as as manager, as regard with comparisons with the 2 previous head coaches not even worth discussing he is streets ahead, he should be appointed our manager ASAP as far as I am concerned.
