Former Hull City star Jarrod Bowen has apologised for using a racial slur, after on old social media post emerged from 2012
Bowen, who left the KCOM Stadium for West Ham in a £22m deal last January, made the comment when playing for Hereford United’s youth set-up, prior to his arrival in east Yorkshire.
The Football Association have confirmed they are looking into Bowen’s comments made when he was 15.
“In 2012, when I was a 15-year-old kid, I posted an offensive and immature tweet. I wish to apologise unreservedly for the unacceptable content of that post, especially to all connected with West Ham United,” the ex-Tiger said.
“This is not an example I wish to set and it certainly does not portray the values and principles that I hold.”
West Ham say the matter will be dealt with internally, but will undoubtedly be concerned that the FA could take action against the 24-year-old, with precedents of fines and suspenstions set previously.
“Equality, diversity and inclusion are at the heart of West Ham United, and our zero-tolerance approach to any form of discrimination is embedded across the club. The club takes matters of this nature extremely seriously.
“In regard to the tweet from 2012, we have spoken to Jarrod and he is aware of the club’s unequivocal stance in this area. He fully understands the requirements and responsibility upon him to always act in line with the club’s values.
"This will be dealt with internally.”
Five years ago, Watford striker Andre Gray was slapped with a four-game ban for historic homophobic comments made when he was at Burnley, while Leicester’s Hamza Choudhury was fined £5,000 and told to attend an educational course for racial comments he made on social media.

I'm away to throw myself on the mercy of the CPS for something highly inapropriate I said in 1977.
And to ask them to take another 14,326 offences into consideration.
As abhorrent as racism is, do we punish the 15 year old boy (& the context it was wrote) or the man he is now?
He has appolgised for what he did then, I'm sure the 'x' who dug this up will have looked for other damming material and this is all / what they could find
