There's stuff about Covid-19 that defies logic. We've had the schools open since september here in Spain, and our cases and deaths were pretty similar to the UK, where schools were closed. We are coming out of a third wave now although the cases are leveling out rather than going away completely, so we're not out of the woods yet. But while everyone seems to agree that children can carry and pass on Covid-19, the schools being open didn't make us worse than anywhere else, just equally bad.

Too many other variables to draw any conclusions from that. But there seems to be so many clever bastards working on all different aspects of Covid that we'll keep on getting answers to the numerous questions that keep cropping up.

I heard on the radio that infections have stopped declining in the UK now.
About 6,500 new cases yesterday (something like that anyway) - about 200 up on a week ago.

Good news is fatalities are declining still.

Good news is fatalities are declining still.

An efficient virus mutates to keep its hosts alive. A dead host is of no use.

As such I would expect continued new strains which can be caught easily but fewer deaths. A bit like the 1918 flu which is still with us but rarely fatal if caught these days.

The EU threatens to stop vaccine exports to Britain, moaning that it isn't getting its fair share.

Doh!

What are they doing with the vaccine they DO have?
Flushing it down the toilet!
Because they're worried about some blood clots.
Well, there was never a shortage of Clots in the EU (mostly running it).

In this country we give people the vaccine, we don't throw it away.
They've got a bloody nerve over there.

PS:
I heard that nobody's going to get vaccinated here in the whole of April.
Not good news.

Why should it?

Don't we have secure measures in place at our borders?
I thought every foreign national coming to the UK has to quarantine in a hotel.
That should also apply to UK citizens returning here from abroad as well in my view.

I'm sorry, but the English Channel should ensure we don't suffer a third wave here in the UK.
And on top of that, ALL of our vulnerable folk have now been vaccinated once. And some have had their second jab too.

I feel bad that Coronavirus is sweeping across mainland Europe for the third time.
But no way should it be inevitable that we suffer the same fate.
We in the UK have already suffered too much. Our death rate per head is the HIGHEST IN THE WORLD.
Worse than the USA or Brazil or anywhere else.

If there are any gaps in our border security, CLOSE THEM Prime Minister.
Don't just shrug and say there's nothing to be done about it.

For Johnson to be so sure that we are facing a third wave, he must have been advised that it will happen anyway, regardless of what measures he takes. He has made sure that "Our Friends in Europe" as he calls them get the blame.

We've had our vaccine. We aren't going to spend the next three months in lockdown. to that.

Pubs & cafes & restaurants & small shops need to be open again.
Or we might as well just stay in bed for the rest of our lives.

A virologist on Radio 4 Today program says that Boris's language is wrong. There will be a small third wave anyway as restrictions are lifted. Blame Johnny Foreigner, though, it's more populist.

It also goes hand in hand with more testing , I still think we should tighten the restrictions on ports and airports, as an island we have no excuse for allowing virus variants from different continents
