I know its not the time for knee jerk reaction, but we seriously need a couple of openers.....bin sibley for certain....put Crawley at 3,bairstow only a one day player nowadays.....but who is out there?

Well, we had a good morning, but after that India and Pant, in particular, took control. It's looking like 120-150 behind after the first innings, and with the pitch deteriorating, we could well get bowled out and lose by an innings.

This India side with their pace attack now is going to be no pushover when they come to England, and gone are the days when we can prepare a pitch that will not suit them, they have a really good pace attack now.

It pretty much played out how I thought, we desperately need 2 opening batsmen. Put all in all a lot of poor shots and good bowling from the India side was our downfall.

I'm a massive fan of Bairstow, but agree now he should maybe focus on the white ball. I think he has been badly managed, which has contributed to his demise. I'm not too concerned about the the batting talent out there, under non asian conditions. . We've got Burns/ Buttler to come back, then it's one of Lawrence or Pope at 6. There's a few behind them, but maybe too early. That's probably on a par with Aussie batting.
We are well equipped in the pace department. Spin remains a concern, but Leach and Root will probably suffice for now, 'til we go back to the subcontinent!!
Interesting listening to Strauss today re Stokes. Now he's become a proper test bat (rather than someone who goes in at 6 and has a bit of a swing), even he has had to sacrifice his bowling, so normally would be little more than an occasional bowler. I'd wondered why he was generally bowling less. Overall then, as an out and out batsman, he's another who has underachieved this winter.

Crawley given time I think will develop into a good opening bat.

Sibley has the right mentality to open, but is not the best technique. Like Bairstow, can cope with being higher up the batting order against moderate attacks, but when they come up against the best they struggle.

Bairstow is a bit unlucky, he ideally could be in at 5 or 6, but with Buttler available, he is better than Bairstow with the gloves and bat.

Leach has proved himself to be our best spin bowler, Bess in time will get better, but needs time to develop. Ali is the question mark, can he find his form in the test side or like Bairstow is he likely to concentrate on white ball Cricket?

England bowlers under the cosh just now, getting smacked all over the place. Odds on India I reckon.

Well beaten today. Our batters just never got going whilst India made it look easy. Not sure why both Currans are playing, Sam is decent but not sure about Tom.
