Would say we have no cover for VVD or Fabinho in terms of roles.

Need another RB as Williams doesn’t look up to it yet, someone that can cover both sides? Or someone that can do a job at Cb as well to be 4th choice? Not many of them around though. Ben white has played CB RCB abs DM for Brighton this year?

Another DM in Fabinho style, someone like Ndidi?

Thiago Jones offer but of creativity. Hendo and Keita should offer the box to box cover but can you rely on Keita. Do we need another high energy player in that style?

Forwards are tricky. On form the front 3 plus Jota have shown they are brilliant and we have that 1 rotation now. Add in Minamino maybe after a loan spell? Elliott has been very good at Blackburn.

could we do with a proper number 9? Or maybe another tricky wide player to rotate around? Depends if klopp wants to change the style I suppose.

i don’t think we’re miles off having a very good squad. A FB, CB, CM and Striker/wide player is probably needed.
 
I know rival fans and the media love to roll out the "but Alisson 66million, but VVD 75million" but these were funded through mostly re-investments. It's something crazy like 110million over the past 5 years that our owners have put in to the club's transfers. 22.2 million net spend a season in the years that we've finally become a top force in European and domestic football. That's less than most of the current flight, but includes the likes of Sheffield United, Brighton and Fulham as notable clubs.

Obviously City, United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton, Spurs, Wolves, West Ham and Villa have spent more than us too. The only odd exception would be Leicester who've spent a bit less than us but have done very well with some bargain signings and selling them on for massive profits. Massive credit for finding cheap and quality replacements.

For a team challenging (well, wanting to right now), that will never be enough to consistently improve and refresh the squad. We're effectively got owners wanting top level success but only willing to fund the club with sub-relegation level investments. Eventually, you get what you pay for...a fatigued, unmotivated and stagnant squad with extremely limited depth beyond the starting XI.

Edit: Yes I'm aware we've been putting money into the training facilities and stadium as well, but that's money which will eventually pay itself off and the stadium was also part of the original terms of the offer to buy the club afaik.

they’re done this season, that’s for sure....but done totally? I don’t think that’s the case. What’s the point of having a gun if you don’t have bullets.....once we begin to play in a compact way again with fast transitions, our front 3 will be back....right now it’s oh so predictable. This means we need pace at the back so we can push up and our energy and pressing in a tighter midfield.
 
Look I think our coaching staff have fallen in love with indoor gyms and that. We moved in during international break in november and result were mixed after. Yes we had a few.good uns but some bad draws as well. About a mo the after we start to absolutely stink.

Is it a coincidence?

Not enough time running drills?

Too many games and falling in love with gyms for recovery?

Who knows.

I do know the main stand and kirkby are great and having 3 pots (I always wanted to see that would.club one after 1984 and that) is marvellous.

It's a pity the Anfield road end will be put in doubt by all of this. Still no permission. Maybe no money.


Overall people need to realise its not as bad as 2010 here.

It's the 13th net spend since 2015, the same as Fulham's.

I meant permission for the Anny Rd End. We've had it since 2014. Liverpool now want to keep the Anny Rd open during the redevelopment, and have asked for the road to be re-routed. But otherwise, planning permission has not been a reason for the development of Anny Rd. FSG paying for it has.

It expired and we have applied for new permission. As you said we had outline permission in 2014. 6 years on.....

Btw your point is the same as mine. I believe fsg now have the perfect excuse to not do it, tighten the belts and buy us players.

If FSG have money, they’ll look to invest it. What else would they do with it? What’s the point of having an asset that is depreciating without investment? Where they invest it is probably more the point but they won’t want to sit on a pile of cash - nobody will...either give it back to the shareholders or invest.

FSg expanded form a small regional outlook into a sizable broadcasting company. I wouldn't say global scale but they tried their damnest.

The point being that FSG supported LFC through loss making years and gave a 100mil loan for the main stand to be paid back over 10 years. After that point exactly what investment have FSG made?

Melwood was sold and the proceeds used for Kirkby. theres no offshore money gone in there as far as i know.

We are looking at a stand that could have cost precisely one Pepe and they can't see the business sense in it so have not done it. They've allowed the club spend club money to do new designs etc but the club need to finance it themsevles.

The only thing to be "grateful" for is they are not going what you've said, taken moeny out each year as a return to shareholder scheme. thier model seems to be to piggy back onto the brand to sell stuff themselves.

Nail on the head, mate. The FSG model is around sustainability and reinvesting what the club makes - and they have succeeded massively. This model relies heavily on very little wastage, and massive overachievement. Klopp has such a low net spend but turned us into the best team in the world. It's incredible but not sustainable because we had to literally sell big players to fund new ones but also ensure that almost every new signing was quality. We have to be efficient in everything we do, with no let up.

Ensuring minimal waste, and wanting everyone to be perfect every time is not a bad thing. And this what we should always try to do. But it's not realistic to expect this year in year out without any drop. Klopp, Edwards and the players have been near perfect for 2 years. It surely could not go on.

We won the CL but brought in Adrian and van Der Berg. We won the PL and bought Jota, Thiago, Kostas (great) but we needed a CB. We should have been spending when we were in a position of power - this is so that we STAY on top. FSG can look back and say it was all justified because we won the CL and PL but there is no excuse for their actions in January, and this is the straw that broke the camels back for me. As a 'reasonable' fan, I don't want them to be spending huge amounts of money on players, racking up debts and being reckless (it would be nice to spend like Chelsea and City but let's be reasonable). But we were in a defensive crisis before January. We needed not one but two defenders who didn't have to be world beaters but good enough to go straight into the team.

Our team had done so well prior to that point to even be in the mix but then to be let down by the owners for not digging into their pockets as a one time investment has completely derailed our season. And that's the sad irony of all it - they wanted to penny pinch in January and rely on Klopp to bail us out but we will end up losing significant revenues from CL and probably bonus payments from the Nike deal. That will hurt FSG massively and I'll be honest ... they deserve it. Klopp deserved backing and they let him down.

In summary - FSG model is good for one off success but it won't work for long term success. Every successful team needs to refresh every 2-3 years and we stayed stagnant. That's on the owners.

Because some fans want more than just one CL or one PL. We want long periods of dominance.

No doubt that FSG have done some really good things but they badly let us down recently and I fear Klopp will walk.

I agree however was the club allowed by its shareholders to borrow the funds to buy a new CB in Jan is a relevant question in that case .
 
Low to step down from Germany after the Euros. Wonder if they’re lining up Klopp as his replacement.
