Well firstly, Rooney isn't as good as Ronaldo, and isn't nearly as good as Messi, so it's not exactly the same. Rooney is a top class forward who's barely ever shown he can get something from nothing, for England anyway. In Euro 2004 he was the next Gazza, he didn't let the pressure get the better of him and he terrorised every defence there. Every England performance since then though has been a pale comparison. When has he made something out of nothing for us? He's a good player and a good finisher but when has he taken numerous players on and had a final product? When has he lashed it in from 30 yards when we've really needed it? When has he stood up and been counted in a massive match? In fact, more often than not he's let his team down when the going has got tough - more like making nothing out of something than the other way around.
Its exactly the same. Rooney is our best player by a mile, we have nobody else as good as him and we're kidding ourselves if we say otherwise. When has anyone in the England side stood up then? I can't remember the last time its happened. But with the attitude of 'he can't be bothered so he's ****' that we all seem to adopt he isn't going to do anything. He IS a class striker and he SHOULD be acknowledged as one. If he played for any other country we'd say he is but we don't when he plays for us. Barmy how we can't get behind our national team then we say they are a disgrace.
I can't get behind them BECAUSE they are a disgrace. I don't see why we should praise players who don't perform. Rooney hasn't performed at major tournaments despite being a very talented player. And no, it really isn't the same as Ronaldo or Messi. They are easily the best players in teams which are full of world class players, more so Argentina than Portugal, but make no mistake, the technical ability of the Portuguese players is far better than ours. Rooney is merely the best player in a mediocre international team, that's no reason to put him on a pedastal. It's pointless comparing people to Messi, Rooney is barely playing the same sport as that guy. Plus Messi and Ronaldo are more likely to win games by themselves, as they can dribble past players. It's true that very few in the England team have stood up when needed, there's usually 1 or 2 at best, and it's rarely enough. But what's your point? We should absolve Rooney of blame just because nobody else does anything either? As you've said yourself, Rooney is the mosst talented player in the England team, he more than anyone has it in him to produce when it matters. But he's gone missing in tournaments and has put pressure on his teammates with incidents like on Friday. You give the impression you are baming England fans for players' failings.
The only English player that would get anywhere near a Earth XI team - definitely would be among the substitutes at least. Neville is right (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/15232130.stm), we are sh*te apart from Rooney and the pressure that we and the media put on him is mental - on one hand take the p*ss out of him and call him Shrek and the like and then put him on the pedestal as the savoir of English football. Plus his dad and uncle are dumb f*cks. George Weah was definitely the best player on the planet in 1995 but Liberia never won anything - not saying that Rooney is near his class but that proves that football is not a one man sport, it is a team game and putting a diamond in sh*t doesn't produce more diamonds, just a sh*t covered one.
...a traitor to the city of Liverpool and a granny-shagging, adulterous, unscrupulous ****er from a lowlife family.
He is after all that money he ****ed out of his club after employing the most odious contract negotiation technique I've ever heard of. Can't believe he's still accepted by their fans.
