Fans going to the game together just sounds alien to me for a derby like. Last time us and Pompey were in the same division they literally banned away fans from making their own way to the match ffs Agree that it's a shame it has to be like that though.
I was at the NLD a few days after David Rocastle had died and I thought Spurs fans were going to absolutely crucify the minute silence. To their total credit, they were silent right through it.
Rangers and Celtic are 2 of the biggest clubs around. Imo being a big club is more about history and following around the world etc, not recent results in a European competition. Theres only 2 clubs in England that can match the Old Firm for this, and thats Liverpool and United. The likes of City, Chelsea, even Spurs and Arsenal have been manufactured into “big” clubs. Take their money away and there wouldn't be much left.
That sums up a fair proportion of their fanbase mate lol, it wasn't just a handful. Remember that **** in the tracksuit smacking the Sunderland player a couple of years back? Pikey ****s.
Walk round any city in Europe (indeed the world) and there is a good chance you will see a Celtic shirt ... only United, Pool and the 2 Spanish giants have that kind of fan base ... that's my point ... Rangers do OK too tbf ... Not forgetting Celtic have won a European Cup as well as all those domestic trophies.
City and Chelsea have definitely been manufactured into big clubs with the amount of money pumped in. But Arsenal have always been a big club, we've never been simply about 'take the money away and there's nothing left'. Same applies to Spurs ... just
I’d include Arsenal too, seem to have a massive fan base for some reason, probably off the back of the Fergie rivalry. And Milan (AC).
When I first started going to Morocco, they always had Barca/Real shirts and AC Milan. But you couldn't get English teams shirts anywhere, and you used to see some ****ing funny knock offs. When I'd go back, I used to take 5 or 6 old shirts, Arsenal, Liverpool and Man Utd and use them as currency to barter with. Put down part payment on a ****ing lovely rug that I've still got on the back of an old Liverpool shirt.
Celtic are a big name imo. They were a truly massive club. But being one of the biggest clubs around involves more than what they do. No big club in Europe should be failing to qualify for the CL group stages most seasons considering they are almost guaranteed winning their league. How many top players have considered joining Celtic? I disagree re City and Chelsea too. They attract top players, win trophies and get to the later stages of the CL ...Chelsea have won both the CL and EL in the past decade. Agree that we ain't a big club...that was why I compared CL group qualification with us over a decade. If you are saying Celtic are a big team cos of historic achievements then you have to include a lot of clubs such as Villa, Forest, Derby, City, Everton and Spurs etc. If you are saying it cos they fill a big ground then you have to include Newcastle, Spurs, City, Everton etc. If you are saying it cos of world wide fans then I have no idea how they are held in the same league as Real Madrid, Barca, Inter, Juventus, Utd, Arsensl, Liverpool etc. I wasn't being disrespectful to celtic but fail to see how they are one of the "biggest clubs in the world"... would have agreed in the 1960s and 70s. But spurs were in the 1960s. Times have changed.
^^^^ old person Fossie likes this post too. Basically man United have always been big and you bigger like Microsoft. Chelsea and city are the new kids on the block like Google and Amazon. Celtic and rangers are basically myspace and yahoo. Fallen giants
