When I was between jobs - okay, unemployed - a few years ago, I forced myself to leave the house every day by 10.00am, even if I had nowhere to go; of course, I did have somewhere to go, because cafes and libraries were open, but you get the idea.
And you can’t beat natural daylight; essential for mind, body and spirit

Well Mrs No7 is working today, so I get the house to myself. Actually looking forward to walking the dogs for an hour, listening to my podcasts and then.....doing my chores around the house
I am 100% with you both on the natural light - I must of sensed it as on Thursday I found myself looking on Amazon for those SAD lamps.
All I can say is that if i feel like this after a week in a detached house with a garden and just Mrs No7 & two little dogs, I better stay on the straight and narrow as I wouldn't last in prison

On that last point, one of my colleagues lives in a three bedroom flat with her husband and 5 kids. I often think of her when I hear people advocating longer and stricter lockdowns.
My neighbours (the ones we hate) live in a similar size house to us, but in it there are a husband & wife, 2 grown up daughters a boyfriend, 3 dogs, 5 cats, 3 rabbits and a guinea pig. Oh and 5 cars up the drive/road (we live in a quiet until they moved in cut-de-sac) - as an aside you would think that the law of averages would mean that at least one of the cars would be the same colour, but nope all different.
You wonder why we hate them.
Well to be fair they are obnoxious, loud, and did trash Mrs no7s car with dents and scratches as well as throw a party where their guests were shouting out racist abuse and urinated on our kitchen wall.
But yep, I wonder how people cope in lockdown sometimes.
Last summer, as Lockdown One was ending, I went to visit my mate in the garden of his little suburban semi.
All you could hear from the house next door, while their kids played in the garden, was adults shouting from inside the house. He said it was like that all the time, every day.
I’m blessed with my urban, flat dwelling neighbours. Old fella on the ground floor hasn’t been out the house for nearly a year though, I do worry about him. Won’t even come to the door anymore, until he’s had his vaccine, and the silly sod is holding out for a specific one (no idea which, I don’t keep up).
To be fair, after over a year of not talking (and us calling the police on them twice), we now talk and they are quiet. Also in the last lockdown they got done for breaching it (not me snitching
). I wouldn't say we are friends, but we say hello if we see each other. It helps that I sanctioned my inner Trump and put up a 6ft 6" fence between us at the front so we cant see them as we leave

I don’t know about lamps but I’d get yourself some Vitamin D. Started it last winter due to advice on bones and ageing. Discovered it cured my SAD. I’m out walking whenever I can as well but you still don’t get enough sunlight in the winter ... excepting our friends on here in exotic locations of course
10mcg tabs cost me 5p a day and I treat myself to 25mcg if I feel the need, which cost a little more
You need to be careful with taking too much though SS, Vit D toxicity is really serious and causes all sorts of problems. Anyone taking Vitamin D supplements should have regular blood tests,
Yep Mrs No7 has always taken them and actually gave me one yesterday, with a view to take one a day.
I watched an interesting program on BBC iPlayer about vitamins 'The truth about...'. Vitamin D was really the only one they recommended to take - especially in the winter.
The interesting thing I thought was that in the winter a totally pale white person needs about 25-30 mins sun, a tanned person (like me) over 45 and a black person up to an hour due to the skin tone not absorbing the vitamin D the darker you are. Summer was about 15 mins less for all.
Not for 10-25mcg though that’s a very small dose. 10mcg is RDA
NHS says not more than 100 and given RDA I don’t see any point in taking anywhere near that
