umm i'll throw in Antonio from WHam who had been around for a while before suddenly becoming a rated PL player .
If we are talking a player who starts in say league 2 or whatever. The paths are many and varied. I take the point that a "big" club swooping in and bringing in a player from a lower club is quite rare, the 15 year old like sterling from QPR is far more likely However there are many examples of players who have taken a long and winding route I have quoted slab head's route to be a ridiculous 85mil england international "superstar" League 1 local lad, wins promotion to championship and earns a move to the mighty hull who are then relegated and is sold to Leicester who then turn his slow arsed slab head into an 85million player the reality is that IMO a lot of players are not english, that's just the way it is so you could contend a player like minamino might as well be a lower league guy plucked from nowhere. mane follows a similar growth pattern but is foreign. I then thought about what clubs would even try to look and ruled out city and Chelsea right away as their egos require massive massive names. So spurs came to mind and instantly I thought Doherty. And looked on wiki and found he was plucked by wolves out of ireland at a young age and stayed there all through thier fall to league 1 and bounce back before his move to spurs. Then alli is obvious then I looked at leicester: Justin, really good player. 90 games for Luton before his move to leicester. league 2 and league 1 player doing well now in the prem! they paid quite a bit for him. ..................................................................... Summary: you can find an example or two of players getting plucked and doing well. We need to consider with davies a) he was out of contract in june so that gives us the ultra low price b) he is 25 so unusual age to make the jump He is a guy who might jump at the chance and do great, or not. Who knows? but we have to give him his chance.
MITO makes good points but I want to clarify that I think we're all giving him a chance but just have low expectations from him. Hopefully he does come in and can do a job. I actually wouldn't be against him starting LCB until the end of the season, alongside Kabak.
Anything's better than what we are up to now. We have to draw a line under this situation now. 4 fit cbs at the club. if a CM is still playing there (after city game and week of training) questions must be asked I'm all for a midfield of henderson fabinho and wijnaldum starting with thiago coming in as he continues his building of match fitness. Alisson TAA Kabak/Phillips Davies Robertson Henderson Fabinho wijnaludm salah firmino mane. when we have thiago, jota, jones and shaqiri as subs really there is no more excuses in February but to get on with it. 4th is the needed minimum and we have the CL to look forward to. its not the end of the world IMO we had a great couple of years there and we can still finish strong this season
Have to agree here, I don't wanna see fab or Hendo playing cb anymore. Play what we have and be done with it.
I agree that getting those players back will be great for the squad but the assumption that everyone stays fit. As we've seen all throughout the season, we get a player back from injury and we're happy but then we get another 1-2 fresh injuries. and this cycle has been repeated so often to the point where I just can't get excited anymore lol. What we really need is luck. We need these players to come back, stay fit, and then to not suffer new injuries. If we can do that, then I see us finishing quite strongly including a good run in the CL. Without that, we will continue to have to patch up the team and scrap to 4th place. Oh and 100% - just use Kabak and Davies now as the CB options, and occasionally rotate Fabinho back there accordingly.
but we should be able to fully manage a squad now. Henderson and fabinho to be rotated with thiago and milner and jones. Jota can support the front 3. We've no clue if the two new cbs are crocks yet I think we can finish strongly form here. I go back to 2017. We had to get 76 points to get 4th and we were AWFUL in December and january and won a lot of games in the last 11 or 12. We can do it from here. We need 10 wins to get to 70. 10 from 16 I sincerely doubt ANYONE is going to get 70 and be 5th. I sort of expect 5th to be more like 62-65 honestly. If that is US we will have to only win 25 from 48 possible points. 25 more point is actually 8 wins from 16. finally: Lets forget west ham right. Its leicester on 42, cheslea on 36 and spurs on 33 (who have really fallen apart) Right now imo its 3 into 2. Liecester, Cheslea and Liverpool. So I'm looking at us having to beat leicester again and need to match up to this cheslea outfit. I'd rather be 3rd and let the other two fight it out. right now cheslea need 11 wins from 16 which is possible to make it. Leicester need 9 wins.
I'd be extremely surprised if two CB's who have never played with each other or in this league were put into the team together without a period of assessment. Imo, they'd have to work wonders in training for Klopp to even consider this. I expect to see them integrated into the team over the next few weeks, not thrown in at the deep end.
Me too, just hopefully that we start integrating ASAP. With that said, we put Fabinho back into CB, then put Rhys Williams there, then Nat Phillips, then Hendo. We've tried around 16 CB combinations this season. So I wouldn't be surprised if Klopp does put them both in at the deep end lol.
If Fabinho is available, he plays CB with A.N.Other leaving Thiago, Hendo and Wijnaldum in midfield. Nat Phillips as been playing well enough to keep his place imo
is he? who knows. what I do know is we are completely unbalanced and there's no discipline to hold. I'd rather he sit in front of the 2 and mind them and let the others do what they need to to get the press and width back working.
Fabinho as been one of the better CBs in the league whilst filling in so yes, he is currently better than our other options, especially when you bring PL experience into the equation too. Hendo moving back to midfield helps solve the issues you raise without needing to move Fabinho. I want to see Fabinho back in midfield too but it isn't happening any time soon.
Exactly, I'm quite happy to play the 4cbs we have and then our mfs back in midfield and then see where we end up, whatever it is so be it.
