So in the summer, we could have VVD, Gomez, Matip, Philips, Davies, Kabak, and Carmo, plus William, van den Berg and Koumetio in the reserves? Sounds a lot, even if we sell Philips.
not sure. Tuchel didn’t need to isolate before taking charge of chelsea. Just had to have negative tests to enter the prem league bubble I think it was.
We've been looking at Kabak for well over a year now as a long term prospect - similar to upamecano - so we've probably just skipped a few steps with going for him now; the loan gives us time to watch him more closely and also means our budget isn't depleted in the summer if we don't want him. Good deal imo Davies is a bit more of a stop gap, someone to fill the hole with a bit more experience about him. How **** must Phillips be feeling now though? Some good performances, chance to start a run of games unexpectedly and then we go and buy two more CBs. Poor lad
Think Matip might go. Phillips was going and will go. Williams not good enough yet, he played at Kidderminster last season. You need 4 centre backs so vvd Gomez kabak Matip/new player would be the 4. Then take into account the long term injuries plus Gomez is a bit injury prone handy to have 1 extra plus fab being an option.
I always think this when young lads get pushed down the pecking order. However, there is no room in football for sentiment and cream always rises so if he's good enough...
Think the fact we're looking at more than one CB means that Matip is probably going to be out for most of the rest of the season, with questions about his general fitness and if he can manage PL anymore. Matip is a good play, but never really fit.
Kabak has defended himself by saying he didn't spit at the opponent, the camera angle made it look like he did
I think phillips knows the score well enough. He must be slightly disappointed but he got his 5 games in so a Prem winners medal is his In reality he would have expected to leave a couple times now but must be feeling that ok its disappointing that he can't make the grade but inthe end long term he's made himself a millionaire by showing he can compete at prem and championship level and should have another 10 years in his career.
I think the general idea would be to have competition for most places to keep people on their toes. IT's not always worked out like that though.
I believe that was what I was inferring with the second part of my comment. But if it was a long term problem, you'd think that the club maybe willing to wait till the summer. Trying now seems more like a short term problem.
