Absolute disgraceful the number of players that don't sing our national anthem. If i was manager if they didn't sing it they wouldn't play simple as that! Maybe the words are to big in it for some of them. Your not bigger than the country you just happen to be in a very privileged position.
I would like to know why they don't sing it. If they have good reason (I'm not sure what that would be, like), then fair enough. I'd like to see them put on the spot.
Don't really know why we have to persist with our current anthem, besides the fact it's for the United Kingdom NOT England specifically. Wales and Scotland get their own, time we get ours too - Jerusalem anyone? Atleast that one gets me feeling patriotic unlike the current durge.
You don't have to sing praises of the queen just because you're English Much like we don't have to praise King Alex Salmond just because we are Scottish
Personally i never sing God Save The Queen.I'm proud to be British but i'm a republican so i disagree with the words of the anthem
The Northern Irish side get lumbered with 'God Save the Queen' also. It's spot the Catholic players not singing as the tv cameras zoom along before the match. I'd suggest they change it to something which represents both communities, but they'd probably use something stupid like Danny Boy. My own personal suggestion is Underworld, Born Slippy - the stands would be mental
I've got a feeling that the current England manager doesn't know the words to the National Anthem either.
Changing the national anthem because catholics don't want to sing it. Naaaaaaaaa But its the same as every nation not all players sing it, catholic & protestant. Plenty of prods in the N.I squad don't sing it, Aaron Hughes an example
Its a football match, not a fu----g song contest, its an absolute dirge, complete rubbish. The author of this s--t, is unknown, not surprising, must have been composed on a drunken night out. Supposedly we live in a democracy, so that is the players business, whether they sing or not. It also gives praise to one women, who as you know is unelected. There is nothing in this dirge that gives praise to the country, which is surely the whole purpose, so that could be the reason why some do not sing. Hope that clears it up for you.
I don't want this to go the way it usually does when we involve NI politics. But yes that is one of many reasons why I could never bring myself to support NI. Symbolically it's 100% Unionist. I know you will like to resist changing things like the National Athem and all the Union Jacks hanging everywhere around the stadium. But you then have to accept that decorating the place like the Shankill Road on the 12th of July is not going to appeal to the likes of me.
The union flag is though our national flag. The reason players jump to the Republic in my eyes is more for the fact they have a better chance of playing in an international competition
