I cant help but feeling some kind of twisted pleasure from seeing England crumble. Lampard, Gerrard, Rooney, Terry and Cole can all go and f*** themselves. Until Capello and the old guard call it a day, I'm not interested.

If i was England manager we would see no more of Terry, Ferdinand, Gerrard, Lampard, Barry, Cole.
Drop Rooney for a few games to prove to him he needs to start to perform for England as he hasnt done this for a long time.
The team should be built around people like Smalling, Cleverley, Jones, Welbeck, Wilshere, Young, Walcott, Downing, Henderson, Carroll, Hart, Walker, Naughton, Cahill ETC
There is alot of decent players there and with the right management some of them could become world class players. Get Harry Redknapp in as manager and i think we would start to see a national team we could be proud of again

Though I wouldn't be proud of myself I'd probably enjoy it a bit if we got to the final or won. But that will never happen anyway. My gut feeling is I just have no respect for them.

Though he's probably the obvious and best choice.We do have some good young players though you're right, and if they can act more maturely than their predecessors in the next 5 years or so you never know the England team might mean something to me again. I won't hold my breath though, not when they're being set such a poor example by experienced pros.
I miss the England teams that palyed under Venables and Hoddle, they weren't perfect but at least they went out of tournaments with a bit of dignity and pride, falling the traditional way - losing a penalty shootout after being robbed of a glorious and deserved victory in extra-time.
I think part of the problem is now Capello doesnt get the players wanting to play for him. Neither did McClaren but Sven did.
Darius Vassell said when he signed for us he would of gone and played anywhere for Sven. David Beckham has a great relationship with Sven thats why we are after him now. Capello seems to distant from the players and McClaren, well the less said the better

I think you need a balance. Yes everyone got on with Sven but too well. He had his favourites and would not drop them, players never felt under pressure for their place and never really showed fighting spirit when it mattered. They were underperforming under Sven too, they have been underperforming since Keegan took over more than 10 years ago. In fact we've underperformed throughout history. I thought Capello would be good when he was appointed as he was known for not putting up with any **** and kicking some arse when necessary. But it's clear that he doesn't have a great relationship with the players, part of it is down to the language barrier and maybe he has gone too far sometimes.
TBF though, these children do not respond positively to discipline and when you've got people acting like that there's very little else you can do. They were rebelling pretty much as soon as they landed in South Africa and I could tell even before we played a match that is was going to go tits up.
I do think the language thing is quite significant, you don't get the feeling he can ever truly command any respect with such a poor grasp of English, whereas someone like Redknapp could be strict, whilst also conveying passion, anger, humour, etc much more effectively, as well as getting his message across easier.
I said when we got Capello - if he can't do it no one can. And I've decided that we are just hopeless.

That is miles stronger then what we have now. Lampard is past it, Rooney no longer performs for England, Ashley Cole isnt the same player he was under Sven
Until there is alot of change with the national team then people just arent going to care. There was alot of moments as an England fan under Sven when you felt proud to be England. (Germany 5-1, Argentina 1-0, 3-2) Under Capello or McClaren there hasnt been a game which has made you proud to support England.
When David Beckham resigned as England captain you could tell how much it meant to him, people tried to shoot Sven down off the pitch and on it but he walked away with his head held high and always no matter what has show dignity and pride in himself. Capello has got 1 decision right as England manager by stripping John Terry as captain but then went and changed it.

Yes that's true. Though it must be said that Sven was in charge for almost 6 years and was managing a team in it's prime. I think that was people's main gripe, these players were good and performed very well in the Premiership and Champions League yet froze and underperformed at the major tournaments despite being at what should have been the perfect average age for a successful international side. It's still happening now to a worse extent.We were full of optimism leading up to the 2 World Cups in particular, having seen glimpses of the great football we could play. Sven was a hero in the summer of 2002, until the Brazil game.
Now we are in a transition from the old guard to the new. The team of the last 10 years has let us down and though the managers must take some responsibility, they all came (except McLaren) with a very impressive CV and it's hard to just point the finger at them when a lot of players have been ever present in this period. There is no doubt it is a poisoned chalice as we don't have the individuals to seriously challenge for major titles, yet we do have too many individuals whose attitudes will cause us to self-destruct. This is all aside from the unrealistically high expectations some England fans have (though not so much now) and a media that knows it will sell more with negative and controversial stories than it will with ones about a satisfactory set-up. Even before the South Africa world cup we had the media protesting innocence after making a meal out of the Capello index 'fiasco' when it was in fact a nothing story.
As for the team being a mile stronger than we have now, on paper perhaps, but it underperformed so often. Once we are rid of Cole, Terry and Lampard I'll feel a lot better, though Rooney's immaturity will stay for a few years longer.

Why we, as England fans, can't be happy with having him in our team is beyond a joke. Its exactly like Argentina saying they should drop Messi or Portugal dropping Ronaldo.

Wayne Rooney is England's best player who, unfortunately, does have the temper of a 4 year old. To be fair to him, he has improved his discipline (on the pitch) recently and I think he has played well for England of late after his difficult last season. I think what happened to his father probably have an effect.
On the old guard, I don't think we should be too quick to write them off yet. There are certain players (cough Gareth Barry cough) who I think don't offer anything to take England forward and should make way. But the likes of Cole etc. still have something to offer. You don't play for the clubs they do at the level they do without having some talent. However, I do agree that they shouldn't be automatic picks (and they no longer are - Capello recently dropped Lampard and Ferdinand) but as long as they are playing well I don't see why they shouldn't be picked. I would also stick with them (as long as they merit a place) because imagine if we did scrap them all and blood a team of youngsters that didn't make it out of their group. They would be lambasted by the media and we would all say that they were a load of crap who can't cut it and that we should bring back the old guard which would destroy these kids. So I think it's great to play young players but only play them if they're ready to play because you can't chuck them in and say 'go and win the World Cup for us' because it won't happen and it could destroy them. So they shouldn't play because they're young, they should play because they've proved they are good players.
We do have a good crop of young players coming through with the emphasis on technical skill rather than physical strength and they will be helped by Southgate's youth football reform and the Elite Player Performance Plan. For instance, this is a good squad of players that we could see representing England for the next 10 years or so:
Hart/Butland
Walker/Flanagan - Smalling/Wisdom - Jones/Chalobah - Gibbs/Bertrand
Wilshere/Shelvey - Barkely/Rodwell - McEachran/Morrison
Sturridge/Walcott - Welbeck/Hope - Chamberlain/Sterling
So the talent is there but to make sure we nurture it to the best of it's (fairly sizeable) potential, we need to make sure we play them when they're ready to play. In the same sense, if the 'Golden generation' are playing well for their clubs, then they should be picked for England and if they're not, they shouldn't.

'Arry reminds me of Keegan. Good motivator and has a good eye for a player but doesn't have a clue about tactics.
he doesnt do it for england and if his ban is more than 1 game he shoudlnt be in the euro squad.
actually i wouldnt have him in the squad if its only 1
we need to move away from this crowd of millionaires who think they are doing us a favour by wearing the shirt--stuff them and win or lose we shoulde pick a squad of young players who want to play.
we should pay no appearance money for england games but a nice payout for semi final/final/winners if we get there.
