Don't worry about the pecking order
Just start hanging around the hospital at 9.30 every night

True it appears to be progressing well. However, they are struggling to get the average number of vaccines delivered close to their stated target of 15m by mid February. Unless, a significant number of new centres are opened, they need to deliver almost double the number being currently delivered to get close to their target. Here's hoping as I am sure most would rather the Govt succeed and not fail.

You've shown the rest of the world that the virus transmission can be suppressed successfully. End of March is not that far away.

Seems London is lagging behind a bit. Only 400,000 if the 4 million vaccinations so far have been done in the capital.

    Happy birthday for Thursday Stan.

So as oldies are all going to get immunised by April. First shot I am assuming....but when are we due to get our second shot.

My maths sort of gets confused but won't we be immunising a vast majority of the population (50%,) with a first or a second shot in a short window around June..

I am sure some one has modelled this better than I can think it out...

There is also a really worrying report out about one of the S African variants.
This is research by Penny Moore (@nicd_sa).

Moore says: ".. we do now have very compelling data both from our labs and many other labs across the world, to support the fact that [the 501.V2 mutations in the RBD and NTD] are problematic."

Basically she said that this variant is not suppressed by antibodies raised in people who had Covid in the first wave ( the one the vaccine is made against,)

This is not quite as bad as it could be...as we can modify the vaccine...but it looks as though we are entering an arms race with the virus...that may take some time to overcome.

Thought I would post this tonight as it is Blue Monday, "officially" the saddest day if the yeat

Surely though Stroller that is more to do with the bizarre way that we classify someone as being a COVID death ? For example, if I went out next Monday and get knocked over and killed by a bus, then I would be in those figures (If my understanding of the thing is correct)
I’m guessing not all countries have that kind of process, and even those that do, some of the poorer countries eg SA etc, might have a large number of COVID deaths that go unreported as COVID.
Besides I thought there were more countries than that in the world...or is the chart just there to suit the rhetoric ?

Happy to be corrected if my thought process is wrong.

Those are the top 30 countries..the other (80 odd countries) are better and are below.

From what I remember the government decided on this method of reporting...because too many people were dying a month or two after Covid diagnosis due to a stroke or multiple organ failure...induced by the Covid infection.

I am sure there are countries who do not record deaths as we do.
By law we report every death in this country, every day. Many less developed countries do not...so there are probably thousands may be millions of unrecorded deaths in the world

But for a highly developed island country that had prewarning of an incoming pandemic, our high position in this table is just shambolic

But that’s not the point I’m making Beth. I totally agree our countries response has been shambolic, that goes without question.
However what I do question is the relevance of the chart when the reporting is flawed.

It's been said before that Germany doesn't test for covid after death and if someone has cancer and they die, that's what goes on the report. France didn't even count deaths at home. Here if you get run over by a bus and you happen to test positive, Covid goes on the record.
We still have high figures though due to our democracies in Europe and how we have either acted, not acted quick enough or just done things differently.

Does this mean that in the run up to the last seven days, we have managed the pandemic in a p*** poor manner compared to others?

Or are we still not allowed to compare handling of the pandemic with other countries?

I was just giving you facts/information in that post. I actually agree Stainsey.

I don't care about league tables...what I do care about us the fact that lots of my friends ( you included) have got Covid.

In the last 2 days one has died and one has been put in an induced coma.

Both were strong 50-60 year old men with no underlying consitions.
It is an awful situation and I am scared.

I do not feel confident in what the government is doing...and so am just trying to look after me and mine.
It is really scary...and the light at the end of the tunnel is not burning very bright for me

So we are both agreeing the chart is irrelevant and almost certainly there for a political purpose (I don’t mean from Stroller, more the chart itself)

To honest I’m a bit different from you and really am feeling ‘glass half full’.......from what I’m reading internally, Ambulance call outs are down, things are becoming less chaotic and we are taking less people into hospital that don’t need to be there.
I might be wrong but I’m seeing this vaccination process as the beginning of the end game......but hopefully it doesn’t make us all drop the ball and think we are out of it.....I honestly do think there is gonna be some kind of normality around the corner.
Might see you at a gig or festival this year or next......don’t forget your (COVID) passport ;)
