Phil Neville has left his role as manager of England's women and is set to take over at David Beckham's Major League Soccer side Inter Miami.

The 43-year-old was appointed as England boss in January 2018 and his contract was due to end in July.

The Football Association says it will "shortly confirm" an interim head coach until Sarina Wiegman's arrival.

Netherlands manager Wiegman will take on the full-time role following the delayed Tokyo Olympics in August.

You didn't know? It has been mentioned for years all over the media. Neville Neill, who was a good sportsman himself, was a lucky dad having 3 kids who all achieved sporting success.
Which, to digress, reminds me of a story involving a poster on here and Geoff Barmby. When it was first reported City might be signing Nick Barmby he was talking to Geoff. He said it had been reported that City were talking to Nick he replied that was more than he was. Apparently there were issues with Geoff Barmby and Nick's wife who he didn't approve of. He then went on to say how much better Nick could have done if only he had listened to him, followed his advice... Bloody hell, Geoff, the poster replied, Nick has played at the highest level for top clubs, played for England, made a load of money and married a woman who is a millionairess in her own right. Most of us are happy if our kid gets picked for the school team.

Meanwhile back on topic...

Norway great Hege Riise is set to lead England on a temporary basis after Phil Neville's departure as manager.

Riise will be joined by another coach at the Lionesses training camp in February.


A decision on who leads further camps will then be made before Netherlands boss Sarina Wiegman takes over permanently in September.

Former midfielder Riise won 188 Norway caps and is considered one of the best players of her generation.

She won the 1993 European Championship, the World Cup in 1995 and Olympic gold in 2000.
