Steve Mills was a good friend of mine and I still see his wife Jo regularly. It was such a tragedy that he died so young. He fought the Leukemia for as long as he could and was always as cheerful as he could be. I popped into see him in hospital most weeks. The doctors and nurses at the RSH loved him to bits and were visibly shaken when he passed away. He was one of the good guys and absolutely loved playing for Saints. He really was some player.

One thing I will never forget is that before he got ill we had a kick around in his back garden and I remember trying to get the ball past him but it was like hitting a brick wall and I eventually just gave up. We were sat down having a cuppa afterwards and he just looked at me and said with a smile "You will never get that ball past me, because I don't want you to."

Lovely story.

12 days of the window left.

Come on board, back Ralph even if just the odd loan or two.

We have injuries building up with still half the season to play and a cup run coming up.

There will be at least one loan I’m sure. Loans will always come late though, just by the nature of negotiations and players wanting to consider their options.

Gareth Bale could do with getting off the subs bench at Spurs.
Perhaps we could revitalise him, as we have Theo, if someone else would pay his wages.

If there is that will be about it. It is what it is. We had decent cover for injuries in most areas and that cover is now playing week in week out. Any more injuries means a chance for the youngsters. To be honest this is what I love about Saints - living on the edge. Most of those injuries will be back playing fairly soon. If we can ride the next two or three weeks we will be fine.

Living on the edge? Falling off the edge is what we do with tedious regularity too!

But I like the spirit of this post.

People will scoff, but that’s a pretty smart signing. He’ll be cheaper after so long without a club and if you’re a Championship team trying to get up, he’s got potential to be a difference maker a few times over the six months of his deal.

A class act IF fit, IF his mind is on it, IF stays fit and IF not costing a fortune.

Absolutely. But he’ll surely be fit enough to play at least some games between now and the end of the year. I think as a short term signing it’s low risk and if the reward is promotion then it’s got huge upside.

The “stay fit” is the big question mark as he is a little brittle. If he plays a bunch of games for the cherries, then they’ll benefit hugely in that league.

He was there on loan before and managed 27 league games. That’s embarrassing that it’s something to highlight but in the context of Jack Wilshere it’s a substantial return! I’m willing to bet that they know what they’re getting into, for better or worse.
