My mates mum fell over and broke her leg, she went into HRI and while in there, caught COVID and went downhill rapidly. She died yesterday.

It’s less than two weeks since she broke her leg, my mate is younger than me and his mum was perfectly well before this.
That’s terrible news.
It’s not perfect but you do wonder why people with covid aren’t in a separate hospital where possible to all other patients. Still wouldn’t stop it but it certainly would help

I believe that Covid spreads more easily than those other viruses too, but I could be wrong.
Either way the measures people are taking for it (due to the fact that it is certainly more life threatening than the others across the population) is bound to cause a decrease in those ones.
I suspect the reason they are saying there will be some things still in place next Winter is because those measures will reduce NHS winter pressures if the vaccine has minimised Covid so they’d like some to stay.
I think it was on last leg on Friday some woman was going back over previous trends (after 1918 flu etc) to predict what might happen after this and her view was mask wearing would still remain by people who had colds etc, just because it’s polite to not gob your illness over everyone else.
She also predicted huge amounts of shagging as soon as people can touch each other based on the massive increase in syphilis after 1918.

(she might not have used exactly those words)

So something to look forward to for some people anyway

Did you know, the true reason we're advised not to drink when on medication dates back to the early syphilis treatment, and has no real medical justification in the bulk of cases? It's more just a tradition.

The medication takes a week or so to have an effect, and during that time people can still spread it, so the advice to not drink, was to reduce the chances of them shagging around when pissed. :emoticon-0147-emo:

Sorry for your mate OLM, that’s really ****.

I reckon by the time this is over, we’ll sadly all know someone taken before their time. I know I do.

Historians have said the flu in 1918, in part, is what led to the “Roaring 20s” with everybody dressing up all the time and always going out dancing, shopping and to restaurants because of the restrictions put upon them during the pandemic.

Does that mean we're on for a roaring 2020's followed by a great depression? :emoticon-0107-sweat

Awful for anyone losing anyone, but worse when youre affected directly or indirectly. Sorry for your pal OLM and all concerned...

I do believe Englands new sport after cycling is walking... so many people out enjoying the sun today... great to see..

All areas going down which is contrary to what we were told on last Mondays press conference, indications from government minister today whe'll be going back into tiers in March all things being well, Hull looks pretty nailed on for being in one of the lower tiers, proberbly 2 ? but least pubs open and some fans back in the Kcom.

Blimey, I’m not looking forward to the news from Germany in 2039 then. And neither are the Poles.

Everybody? Not many in this country, with poverty and 10pm closing times.Or in most places. Though more alcohol was drunk in the USA during prohibition than at any other time.

tbh if we carry on like we are ... dare I say it in a few weeks we could even qualify for tier 1 ... the numbers are promising and going in the right way , ironically the "scare" we had at the beginning of november combined with police enforcing things as they should I think have done our area the world of good , and potentially (only if and a very big if) could lead us to being the leading area in the uk tier wise , its by no coincidence that our vaccine rollout is far ahead of others , my 70 yr old dad has a letter now saying that 70+ are now going for appointments

can I suggest if you have not heard so far and 80+ or front line you get in touch with the NHS about this as our area is moving at a rapid pace

70+ and on the extremely vulnerable list but heard nothing in my area. Not bothered as stopping in at this time of year is no big deal.

Should be hearing something very soon then , the numbers they are doing at the minute is crazy and its going 24/7 in a few hubs around here also ... 140 jobs a minute UK wide ... we will crush the 15 mill target by mid Feb and honestly by June yes all over 18's will be offered it I am confident ... normality is coming ... lets just see this one out :)

Hope so. But my surgery has gone through a lot of changes over the past 3 or 4 years and gone from an A* one to one where things are considered a bit of an imposition. That is if people can get past the receptionists, sorry, clinical navigators as they are now referred to as.

I’ve never read any medication instructions
Never knew you shouldn’t drink...

Yeah that’s pretty much what she said
