rumours are circulating that we have just lost out to Havant & Waterlooville for the signature of ex Juventus star Vincent Pericard...he was really wanting to come here but apparently they have offered him more wages!!..."come on Rowland" !!
That seems odd. Not that H&W would pay more but that we'd be interested in the first place. I know he's played at a higher level but "star" is pushing it, to say the least. Besides which he's a striker, I think, and I see no reason to disrupt what has been a generally effective forward line that has the potential to get much better. Do we really want to push Bradshaw down to 5th choice striker? That's not what we're about at all. If this story's true, it doesn't bother me a jot. Save the money for when we might really need it.
For you, that's quite good. But the joke is on H&W really, not Shrews - which I'm sure isn't what you intended. As for the dosh, we don't claim to have loads. We have no debt (which I know means we have loads compared to most clubs) and we had 8 figure net assets in the last accounts I saw (about a year ago). But that's not cash, it's the investment in the stadium facilities and surrounding land (about 25 acres I believe). We have money when we need it, but not enough to waste it. That'll do nicely.
Hey Matster - are you meeting aj in the Railway later? I'm still at work but I might be able to call in for one.
Agree with Shrewd. Pericard always was spoken about by the Stoke fans as nuclearly overrated and he's been foolish by choosing a struggling Conference team over us- how can they have offered more when they're part time? Makes no sense but i'm glad we haven't got him
This rumour is unlikely to be true. He is based in the south and signed for H & W pro tem in the hope of returning to the full time game. Anyway, I have always been against signing convicted criminals.
it was heard on Radio Solant by a colleague of mine, and what he said is that he had been training with us for a week but waterlooville have put together a better financial package. i personally think that he just wants to get his fitness up and is banding his own name around, and if we do really need to invest we must be looking for a couple of defenders because we are starting to leak to many goals at the moment.
Grandison for CB. Why not? He was good with Hazell, is a physical beast (Stuart Dunn) and won't be forced to whack out the stepovers
All reports suggested that Pericard was training with Bournemouth and I am sure if he was any good they would have snapped him up or been put off by his prison record.
i wouldn't say things at the memorial ground are desperate yet, but i understand the mortgage on the gashead's pie shop/shack has just gone toxic. our financial correspondent confirms there will be a collection tomorrow night before the game against rotherham. it is not true the gas are expecting loads of late entrants to the ground
aj banters on the gas threads in a vain attempt to give the gas a bit of a lift, something paul buckle is emmintly unsuited for. what the gas need is young paul simpson. he rescued the shrews and got them to wembley, but not a brilliant season thereafter
