Be interesting....For me, apart from his time with Everton and the first years at Man U, I didn't see him anything special as a player...IMO one of the most over rated players in his time...Lets see how he gets on with management..
 
that group of "home grown MU talent does seem to have done well " and also a number of players since, Rooney the latest ex player to try his luck ….. add in a few other ex ENGLAND squad[s ] players and we do seem to get a few good managers evolving!
 
Great player for Club and Country.
Unlikely he will be anywhere near as a good a manager.

JGF - he wasn't 'Home Grown' - he went to MU from Everton.
For me, he was never the same after his injury (metatarsal?) - THAT World Cup where every other key England player had a metatarsal injury and Rooney played against the wishes of SAF?
He doesn't strike me as management material, but then again I don't know the lad personally, so have only formed that opinion from what I read/hear/see in the press.

please note, .....................home grown are in " " then a number of other players mentioned since, before ROONEY is the latest ex player to try his luck ……….. all separate staements
[ in a sort of odd way ROONEY was only 16? when he signed ? so would have benefitted from similar treatment to any academy players all be it whist turning out for the first team... bit like Massengo? ]
MU do have a lot of ex players progressed into other aspects of top football jobs!

He was 18 when he signed for Man Utd. And I doubt he had anything to do with their academy. He went straight into first team squad.
