I think this is a wise move by the feds. Broadcast what the intel is telling them so now those organising these riots will have to rethink.

It'll be interesting to see if they still go ahead knowing the cops are ready for it, or they'll decide on something else.

Considering more people voted for Trump than there are people living in the UK, removing Trump might help, but it aint going to cure the problem. I think the Natonal Guard are coming in for the inauguration and Americans are being told to stay at home. If they don't stay at home, it could make prime time viewing of a mass shoot out for CNN coverage. Exciting times. :cheesy:

What about fervent Trump supporters, that serve in the military. Who's to say they won't side with the protesters and shoot up the joint.

After what happened the other day, anything could be possible.

Wednesday was The Great Skedaddle. The 21st should, if a Joshua Chamberlain can be found, be Gettysburg, with the MAGA foot soldiers waging a suicidal Pickett's charge resulting in their massacre. Hopefully. :emoticon-0184-tmi:

Why, what did you think I was gonna say? I believe in free speech. I don’t, however, think opinion should be allowed to masquerade as news, and I don’t believe free speech should extend to incitement to violence or riot. In the US, the first amendment makes free speech an uncontested absolute right, pretty much without limit; that’s never been the case in the U.K., where freedom comes with certain responsibilities.

As for social media, it seems they are accused of having created a monster, but they didn’t create the monster; hate and fear created it, just as they created the same monster in the 1930s.

Social media gives extremism a platform, but in the 16th Century European governments tried to ban back street printing presses for spreading sedition. It didn’t work. Because the problem doesn’t lie in printing presses or social media, it lies in men’s hearts.

Lastly, it really isn’t the far left you need to be worrying about just now. Have a look around you ffs. Capitalism is failing millions of people, and as a result, democracy is under threat, but most certainly not from the left.

Nah, most of them are sackless incels chatting **** on the net.

The idea that there’s going to be some vast heavily armed HillBilly army rock up, on what would be a suicide mission, is for the birds. There might be some localised State issues, and some hicks tracked and blocked from getting into Washington, but it’ll be 2/3rds of **** all imo. They had their MAGA day out last week.

I see the horned tattooed knobhead lives with his Ma, and she’s told the press he’s not eaten since Friday as they won’t serve him organic food in the big house. Just <laugh>

The prime issue with Ofcom is that it’s largely reactive. So it investigates supposed issues that have been brought to its attention. For example, 24,500 complained about a ****ing dance routine on ITV recently ffs, so they investigated and found it was a dance troupe...dancing.

So whilst you say there’s no requirement for obvious ‘balance’ the viewing snowflakes make that decision knowing that if they get a decent ‘ratio’ it’ll cause the broadcaster some grief.

The current predictable freeze peach debates in the wake of Trump being rightly removed from Twitter sum up the problem perfectly. He used that platform to spout over 20,000 demonstrable lies in 4 years of office, the culmination of which was a direct attack on the heart US democracy by falsely accusing anyone and everyone of being involved in ‘stealing the election’, then when completely cornered and out of options, he orchestrated that shameful debacle last week, resulting in a handful of deaths, but it could have been far, far worse.

He was left unchallenged for way too long, it was only post the election that they started tagging his lies with warnings about the veracity of the content. So there’s the issue, what does free speech actually look like in the age of social media? Should people be able to post demonstrable untruths without censure? Where does opinion end and deliberate and potentially dangerous misinformation begin?

Recent debates on the subject have been clouded by people taking entrenched viewpoints based on who’s being discussed and the colour of their scarf. This issue isn’t black and white, it’s a vast number of shades of grey, but we appear to have lost the ability to have nuanced positions these days, it’s all about the team you’ve chosen.

The entire issue does need debate, as something has to change imo, but I don’t profess to have all the answers as to what that looks like. A cross party committee in the commons might be a decent starting point for us.

Ofcom sets out some broad parameters for impartiality and standards in order for UK media to gain their licence to broadcast, but as you say it’s problematic as they are largely reactive when it comes to dealing with problems, and it’s often a case of shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted. And at times they are shutting the wrong door and letting the wrong horse bolt off.

As for social media, you can see why they have attempted to allow their platforms to be as free and open as possible, otherwise they get accused censorship and partisanship, when they are attempting to be apolitical.

That said, look at what it’s led to; an actual coup attempt in the heart of US govt, fuelled by years of lies and abuse from the sitting President.

Nobody wants a China style ban on Facebook and Twitter and it replaced with a Govt sanctioned version, but it looks like there’s got to be either better self regulation of these platforms or tighter legislation. Tbf to Twitter and Facebook they have at least made a start on that now.

SM companies hid behind ‘we’re just a wall’ for way too long, whilst I don’t think they should have to take the full effect of being classed as publishers, I do think there’s likely somewhere in between.

I see now there’s now much wailing abut Parler losing its hosting via Amazon and effectively being **** canned until they can find a new hosting service large enough. That rancid **** pit is an example of what happens when users are lobbed off the mainstream sites and certain people see an opportunity.

As Parler was originally set up by a Russian couple (nothing to see here) in Vegas. As it started to gain some traction with the far right, a company that’s been linked back to the Mercer’s heavily bought into it. The Mercer’s being Trumps largest donors and also completely coincidentally they have a $6.8BN tax evasion case ongoing against them. The same Mercer’s who owned Cambridge Analytica who data mined FB and helped Trump win in 2016. The same Mercer’s who met with Farage and Wigmore at Trump Towers, them. Quite why they’d want to own a far right echo chamber platform that runs at a loss, is a complete mystery.

Waitrose sell a vegan Spanish whirl / spiral sausage ... very chorizo like and we've used it in casseroles, pasta dishes or just as it is to help with overall meat intake ... would recommend.

    EDIT that's the one
