I don't think the Moderna is even approved for use over here yet?
I think most of us are more likely to get the Oxford one.
The moderna is also really expensive.
Oxford is £3 per dose
Viagra £15 per
USA £25 per
Not even going to look at the moderna when its that expensive and you've already got two (more to come I understand) approved.
The regulators will approve it, but we'll never use it.

No... You can also sit through a timeshare presentation to get something free.
When I was younger and poorer I had a couple of free vacations by attending time share presentations (like most people there, had zero intention to buy)... Man those salespeople are relentless though, but it was almost worth it to get a free weekend away.
Cost shouldn't be of concern when it comes to your health (within reason)

On one hand though, the motivation not to have the expense of a lengthy hospital stay helped motivate me to be responsible during covid even more than potentially getting the disease did.

Lets say 50-55 ish million people to vaccinate (roughly) each needing 2 doses.
AZ= 330m
Biotech= 1.65b
Moderna= 2.75b
Time is almost literally money here too.
There is a very real cost to the economy for staying shut down, and for treating sick people. If you can get hold of 10 mill doses of the most expensive vaccine now, you're saving money rather than waiting for the cheaper dose to be available.
And as much money as 2.7bn is to you and I. It's asking cousin Nick to lend you a fiver to cover a pint for the government.
Ah but in the UK the cheaper one is the one that's available now. Its also easier to use.
The Moderna hasn't been approved over here yet, not in Europe either.
Question was whether the UK would use the moderna, it'll be approved and we'll probably use the amount that's already been ordered (about 2m doses) but the AZ will be the one that most of the UK population gets.
I say the best solution is to vaccinate people with whoever can produce the vaccine quickest and supply the country with the doses it needs. Even 25 a person is cheaper than staying in lockdown another month.
But, yeah, don't wait for Moderna. The country needs to vaccinate people as fast as possible. If you personally have the option to pick your vaccine, I suggest the better one rather than the cheaper one.
I pay more than $25 just to talk to the nurse before seeing the doctor.

Zero chance we'll get to pick and at the same time you wont be able to pay for a vaccination over here. It will all be NHS, the idea of queue jumping would be more than frowned on.
I didn't have a choice either. My vaccine was free. I don't know if that's just because I'm in a hospital and they wanted us covered as quick as possible.

It should be. A free vaccine wi cost the country a heck of a lot less than having the virus linger and them putting out another stimulus cheque.
Nah, none of us is going to get that chance. Its Nhs all the way for the UK.
Think most countries will go down this route, don't think the Rich jumping their way to the top of the list will sit well with people especially since its the oldest and poorest that are effected the most.
Wouldn't think so, the vaccine is bought by the NHS and UK government, its up to them to distribute and will be done in accordance with their guidelines, ie which age groups and medical necessity get it and in what order.
People start going private and it mucks it up. Plus can you imagine what would happen if they did allow people to pay, rich and famous getting in before your 80yr old gran, there would be outcry over who is getting it. Demand would be uncontrollable and the poor would be left vunerable.
The only way to do it is by offering it through Socialised health care, it ensures the right people get when they need it, maintains a fast and steady roll out and starts the road to easing restrictions.
