A few months ago, they deployed the National Guard and heavily-armed police in full gear because protesters were in the general vicinity of the Capitol, and then mercilessly beat them on the vague pretense that they might try to storm it.

Today, Trump's mob actually stormed it, with weapons, including planting at least one pipe bomb...and the police took selfies with them. The police are broken; start over.

In other news, John Ossoff is projected to take the second US Senate seat for Georgia, giving the Democrats the majority.

For a sunbelt state like Georgia, a former secessionist slave state, to elect a black Baptist minister and a 33 year old Jewish man as their senators is remarkable.

I used to chat to a woman from Atlanta online and she was very clued up politically and was a big Obama supporter and had a great taste in music too!.
It's quite an urbane and sophisticated city I think, I mean R.E.M. and B52s are from there.

This isn't funny any more. Donald Trump is a dangerous man who has caused all of this with his refusal to accept defeat and insist he was defrauded out of a second term. The man's a complete disgrace who has besmirched the position of President of the United States.

And that was 4 years ago and all his misdemeanors inbetween.

Most of the US has a profound urban/rural split, but there are few places where it is more striking than Georgia. Atlanta is a majority Black city and the metro area is one of the fastest-growing in the country. The suburban parts are increasingly young, multiethnic and highly-educated. The rest of Georgia (with a few exceptions, like Savannah) is...absolutely none of that.

They also arrested and handcuffed peaceful women sitting outside the Senate protesting during the Kavenaugh hearing.

It’s the first time the Capitol has been successfully stormed since the British burned it down in the War of 1812.

Riot police treating the insurrectionists with kid gloves, to say the least. As has been said, a far cry from the treatment meted out to peaceful BLM and leftist protesters in the last few months.

My wife is American and she’s been repeatedly telling me since the election that we are nowhere near the bottom yet.

This is the end of the two party system, a new era of concentrated domestic terrorism, enabled by police. The end game of this is the collapse of the union. You can get Trump in any way you want. Tax evasion, impeachment, treason, It won’t help.

The genie isn’t going back in the bottle.

This is OK rep Markwayne Mullin (republican). A Trump enabler cowering in fear of a coup that he helped happen.
