Having different regions in different tiers might work in Canada or Australia. In a small island like ours it’s impossible to manage it; everyone needs to be on the same restrictions regardless

I agree mate. It never made sense at the time, the spread of the new strain was like a ticking timebomb in the run up to the biggest event of the year. Anyone that lives within Kent knew how quick the new strain was spreading, Medway Hospital had it swarm though every ward I'm sure I read at the time. You woudn't want to go to the hospital even if you were poorly, without playing russian roulette with the new strain. Football itself was a massive indicator the horse had bolted, with the number of cancelled games. You didn't need to be a scientist or a professor to see something was drastically wrong. Some might argue that's easy to say after the event, but we knew the new strain was spreading quicker than ever. Even I said at the time, it never made sense not to shut London down, I think I quibbed at the time, are they keeping London open for the politicians.

Biggest shocker for me is Drakeford hasn't cut short his Christmas holiday to add to the restrictions Johnson put in place.

If anything, England just joined what we've been doing since before Christmas, truly remarkable.

About time the general population took some responsibility in all this, instead of us just shrugging our shoulders and saying 'you know what we're like, Cummins and a castle or something'. That can't keep being used for an excuse, it's been done to death.

There's your target, mid February. **** about and it becomes even longer.

If the population sticks to that part, then it's over to the government to deliver their part.

    Which they'd ****ing better.

To meet the mid Feb deadline they’d have to increase the vaccinations from the current 300k per week to over 2 million per week - from today.

    No, me neither.

Tbf, When I looked yesterday Wales seemed to still be doing considerably worse than England looking at the rates of infection. That doesn't mean we shouldn't have closed down sooner, but the countries haven't been comparable.

I agree that the general public seemingly unwilling to take any responsibility for this. There's been so many anti-covid gatherings and stories of partys/raves being broken up that it would be impossible for any government to contain this when so many will not stick to the rules.

The COVIDIOTS have been egged on by ****s with their own agenda. I posted this a fortnight back

I see TalkShite had their YouTube channel pulled today for their blatant anti mask, anti lockdown narrative. They’re now crying their eyes out obvs.

    This.

Folk need to show some resolve.

Was listening to the radio this morning and some bint had phoned in to ask if the lockdown meant she could still take her daughter to Disneyland Paris in a couple of weeks.

No love. Is it that ****ing difficult to grasp ?

In fairness, she’ll have seen dozens of celebs etc jetting off to the Caribbean over Christmas and probably wonders what the difference is.

You can still travel for ‘business’ btw, but you can’t travel to Scotland to play golf, especially if you’re an orange fascist - go Nicola. <laugh>

He was apparently planning to fly to Scotland to play golf on the day before Bidens inauguration, so she said playing golf isn’t an acceptable reason to travel, so **** clean off Donnie. <laugh>

The rates of infection per 100k have been high in some areas but any idea that everyone is ill or dying in hospital is completely false.

The hospitals are at normal levels, if anything people aren't going in because they've been scared of their own shadows by media portrayal.

The NHS isn't close to breaking here, soz to the very earnest BBC and that, I've got it on good authority this isn't the case.

Another thing, the much vaunted fire break made not a jot of difference rate wise.

It was all the valley commandos having parties in each others houses done it, @luvgonzo to confirm.

The big cause of this spike imo is that many decided it was over on the news of the vaccine and stopped giving a ****.

We've got one Hospital with ICU beds in Cornwall, and whilst we have luckily seen low infection rates down here. Over the border in Devon Hospitals like Derriford have been running at capacity, so they have been sending patients to Treliske (The cornish one) as we have capacity to accept their overspill.

That's all well and good until Cornwall sees a spike and needs all of its ICU beds,(not just for Covid patients but for all manner of intensive care needs) then then places like Derriford will be at breaking point. So it's a fine balance managing the overall numbers versus hospital capacity.

Plenty stopped giving a **** in the summer mate. Imo the spike was a combination of the new strain plus Christmas shopping with maskless gonks adding to the issue.

True but it certainly increased more after the vaccine news I reckon. Definitely down here anyway.

Also partly down to the fact that viruses thrive in colder weather anyway.

That's true for many viruses, including other coronaviruses and the flu but there is currently no evidence that that is true for covid. In fact evidence is pointing to weather not being a factor for covid.

It’s not about the weather itself, it’s about the fact that in winter people stay indoors more, in confined unventilated spaces.
