Hi guys, a West Ham fan here, Im not sure if alot of you were on BBC 606, but the ones that were said that Parker would be a bench player at best, what do you all think now? BTW not looking for an arguement, just interested in your thoughts
They'd be eating their words to be honest. Been brilliant since joining us. £5m (if right) is a bargain, deal of the summer for me.
i was sure about how he would fit in,but harry proved he knows what he's doing signing him,he's done great so far
I always thought he'd be a good signing for us but a lot of other Spurs fans were sceptical. We're all very pleased he's here now.
I wasn't on the old 606, but I was delighted we got Scotty. I always thought he'd be a great acquisition for us, I'm just surprised that he's even better than I thought he would be. Thanks West Ham for letting us have such a top player. I think the last time we had both the Footballers and Writers Player of the Year in the same team was when Ginola did the 'double'. To have both Bale and Parker playing together is a great honour for us. A lot of fans make a massive mistake when they talk about possibly buying players, they simply fail to understand that top level football is a squad game. Even if players are sometimes on the bench, they can still be a great asset overall. Furthermore when we bought Parker, Sandro was injured, so it was obvious we needed him, at the right price, etc. Spurs fans, of all fans, should know that players have a habit of getting injured (not to mention suspended, knackered, loss of form, etc). It's not about eleven players, it's about 18 or more. Squads win you titles, cups and top 4 places.
Parker is exactly what our defence/midfield was crying out for. When it comes to protecting the back 4 he is up there with the best I am also hoping he chips in with a few of the screamers he used to score for west ham!
GHoddle10 is right about it being about squads and that nowadays "first 11"s don't really come into it. I'm not sure if a first choice 11 has actually been available to Spurs for years and years (especially if you consider that our first choice centre back pairing for the last few years has probably been King and Woodgate). I thought Parker would be a very good addition to the squad. HOWEVER if there was a first-choice 11 he'd be in there now. Put it this way - if everyone was fit and we had a big game coming up I reckon he'd start. We've been waiting for years and years for a tackling midfielder who could also pass and get forward and now, in him and Sandro, it looks like two have arrived at once! I always hated watching Parker play against us - would curse his name and all the niggling little fouls and general nuisance of him. Love watching him doing it for Spurs, though!
I didn't think Parker was as good as he was. I'm happy to admit I was wrong, so far he's been excellent and been a key reason why we have taken won 4 out of 4 against Wolves, Liverpool, Wigan and Arsenal.
Yep, I'm still swallowing my own knob on that one! I have to say I didn't think he'd be up to it, however, his performances in a Spurs and England shirt have been top drawer. At least we 'can', admit we were wrong.
Wasn't he largely kept out of the side by Makelele, Essien and Lampard, though? Very tough competition for a place, there.
