we in the end did well picking up these lads out of other academies and selling them on.
a lot of these kids prove they are not up to it before they ever come to us but we bring them along a bit and get them to championship level. it does seem kind of a waste of time until you see the vast fees involved.

Who would that leave on the treatment table? VvD, Gomez and Jota?
I hope we buy this January...in tact I hope it’s announced before the window open....top of the league without our two starting CB’s must be bothering to those who thought we’d fall apart...imagine how they’d feel if we splashed the cash.

Its 3 first team players in other words. No disrespect to tsimikas but he is back up this season and while he looked alright against the danes he has a lot to do to be a real option.
We've then loads and load of midfield options, though our mate fabinho should be no 6 as it would be better imo so we can have 2 going forward more than 2 sitting.
Right now Matip is a big issue. can't play more than 1 a week and is releid on for all the games.
Williams is a good lad but needs time and work but has done him self no harm. If he was built stronger he's be getting the nod imo. has time there to work on it.
the quiestion for me is whether or not either CB are on a path to being back in say march. Only the club will know. It'd be a low expectation with vvd but maybe with gomez.
Even I thought we'd be struggling more than we are. The others must be seething.

yeah, Matip is the weak link in this. It will bite us at some point so buying in 2 weeks ish would be cool.
btw, I remember reading that the Gomez injury is a difficult one to come back from....has that changed? I’d always assumed VvD would be back sooner.

I heard March at the outset.
it sounded to me however when reading it that he did a tendon and perhaps ripped it off the bone. add in he is notoriously slow in healing then you could be right.
anyway I am no longer in the joe fan club so I am OK if we buy a rcb.
fabinho has been good at cb. not 100% but in his own way.
if matip could stay fit over then next games I would say he will last the pace though January but we will see.
give williams 5 games and he could really improve either.
do you buy and tell the kid he has no shot or trust he will develop? I think he's already earned himself a really good loan next year. buying might make sense if you are happy to let matip go after another 12 months.
it really has to be right long term and I could easily see us with 3 cbs plus one buy in 2.years time with those being williams vvd and gomez. you have to buy someone who can play lcb or rcb.
if we then see Phillips has probably done enough to be worth 10mil to someone who wants a tall lad then it schurrs at 20 mil or something would be a nice deal with little outlay.
a Good January could be picking ajax pocket and selling on Phillips to a club needing a cb in the championship.
Once Fabinho, Thiago, Hendo, Jones, Wijnaldum, Milner, Keita, Minamino, Shaqiri and Ox are all available and fighting over three midfield spots (obviously the latter three can be in the front three too), it'll make for interesting viewing.
Shame we've not hit that depth anywhere else although that is a crazy amount if depth.
shaqiri is just not a midfielder no matter what klopp say. and minamino isn't one either.
ox can push on up if needed and of course milner covers every position going so its not all bad.
for me theres mainly fabinho for no 6 even if people say thiago plays it.

overall it still amazes me that origi and shaqiri played and we beat barca 4-0.
Agree Shaqiri and Minamino aren't CMs, but Klopp plays them there so they are
klopp does a lot of odd **** nobody else would get away with. standing there didnt make milner any more a full back than it made shaqiri a midfielder.
like firmino is not more of a striker than you are.
Maybe Pep will now stfu regarding handball by Trent before Fabinho scored against them last season
