So London in Tier 3 for 6 days?

So basically everyone treats this with the contempt it deserves, go see who they want, do what they want. And the ONLY thing this will achieve is damage the retail and hospitality sector? And still cause more infections? Because that's all I see happening.

The majority who don't always like the measures but still abide by them. Yes a minority would have ignored it but the message would've been quite clear not to. In contrast by saying you can go mix households for 5 days, you're encouraging it.

The honest truth is a large percentage of people in this country don't give a **** unless it
    affects them directly.

Before the christmas ease was announced polls showed the majority (something like 60% iirc) didn't want restrictions lifted for those 5 days. And historically, even those who don't like the restrictions, many still abide by them.

And even if we put that to one side, the message being sent out is still the wrong one.

you get one or two days Xmas in Spain and Italy staying in your area; and that is on the back of proper lockdowns

in France and Germany restaurants have been shut all winter, shops closed etc

The idea we could go to say Gloucestershire on Xmas Day then Birmingham for a couple of days then next then back home is ridiculous.

And on the back of the weakest lockdown in Europe

Reality has hit home now, we will have a massive third wave and be locked down until March because Boris wanted five Xmas dinners; I hope people see sense and stay at home for Xmas and don’t move around

The real culprits here are the anti mask, anti lockdown goons from Z listers on SM to paid shills on the airwaves. Who’ve been telling the populous since the summer that COVID was ‘over’. Together with the Cummings debacle this has lead to many simply ignoring the rules and guidance and we’ve ended up with a predictable 2nd wave.

The ‘let’s give the virus 5 days off’ idea was plain bonkers and will result in some horror stories in the new year based simply of the demographics who are going to mix without any precautions in households over the period. The rule of 3 households is going to be either ignored completely or people will somehow think it’s fine to have numerous households mixing as long as it’s on separate days,

With the vaccines on the way now, it just seems ludicrous to be doing this at the end of a year where most of us have made sacrifices, but for many, I suspect that much of it could have been for nothing, as they want to share a mince pie with gran.

Yeah but the triumphant headlines though.

Ze Germans aren’t ****ing about and they have an adult leader who understands a bit of science. If you announce well in advance that people can crack on for five days then people are naturally going to take that as the green light to go back to normal.

I've always thought the Christmas thing a bit baffling tbh, making out as if it's the most important thing to people. Though I'm pretty sure people would have ignored restrictions anyway.

I do feel a bit sorry for the hospitality trade tbf like. As many of them spent thousands preparing their premises for COVID safe openings, and they’re all forced to shut the doors, whilst shops are bustling with people doing their Christmas shopping. The evidence seems to point at this being the main point of current transmission. I suppose it’s another case of the few ruining it for the many, as they won’t want to see reruns of the ‘parties in the streets’ after the boozers shut, as for every conscientious landlord ensuring booked tables and food served etc, there’d no doubt be another one happy to lob a scotch egg in for free if you order 4 points of beater,

I'm just hoping that this new variant proves weaker and doesn't effect vaccine efforts.

It just smacked of cheap populism by Johnson tbh. It’s a religious festival at the end of the day, and other faiths who’ve had recent festivals come and go we’re just told to suck it up. They’d have been better served saying sorry folks it is what it is, the virus won’t take a week off. People would have made their own decisions and likely just had immediate family and made do with zoom. Now I think it’ll just be a free for all for many, and they won’t give a ****. Scamdemic or something.

****s, all of them. Had two drives out to coast all year and avoided people. Have one parent at daughters school who went mad because they made her use hand gel.

his gran died and whole family tested positive, but preached it’s a hoax. Prick.

I just don't think it's as important to people as made out. Of all the **** things about lockdown then not being able to have gatherings at Christmas is pretty low on the list imo. Pretty sure people would rather have jobs/income back than be told they can see their grandmother at Christmas.

Can't wait to see how **** up things get in schools after xmas.
My teen beast has been made to self isolate twice in 7 weeks cos of outbreaks at her 6th form ffs.
I am actually feeling a bit stressed about wtf we'll be facing when we return in January ... have very little faith that many plan on being sensible and safe tbh.
