Exactly. I can never remember Newcastle winning anything. As a lad I always use to think of them as the team that were likely to be runners up, but never winners.

They bring to mind two players, such as Malcolm MacDonald simply because he played for England and Alan Kennedy who left them to win trophies at Liverpool. Alan Kennedy would never have won anything if he hadn't of left them.

The North East has two massive clubs but when compared with Merseyside or London they are insignificant regarding any collection of silverware. So much so, I think I'm right in saying little ole West Ham have won the FA Cup three times since Newcastle last won it.

In fact when thinking of the two North East clubs, the only one that gets any recognition from me is Sunderland and Bob Stokoe, he played for Newcastle all his career but chose Sunderland their greatest rivals, to manage. <laugh>

I'm old enough to remember Bob Moncur (think it was him) lifting the then Fairs Cup <yikes>

The salient difference being, that by the time Leeds paid record money for Ferdinand he’d played over 120 games for West Ham. You’ve signed this kid for mega bucks off the back of half a season in a ****e League. He might go on and be a great player, or he might not. He’s done precisely nothing yet.

word of warning on young CB. John Stones.

I remember them winning the Fairs Cup in 1969 with Bobby Moncur as captain.

Fairs Cup was actually known as the Runners Up Cup at one stage. So we were Champion Runners-Up.

Last thing we won apart from Championship trophy twice.

The only highlights I can really remember from Newcastle, aside from that FA Cup defeat to Liverpool, was Bobby Robson, I liked him. And Kevin Keegan, was he at Newcastle when he threw that hissy fit on live TV?

Hang on last night I was told people think football only started when sky came along, but today I'm being told west ham won the fa Cup more recently than Newcastle and that the fact newcastle have won more trophies overall doesn't count

Confused

We were actually in the FA Cup Finals in 1997-98 and 1998-99 so again runners-up 2 years in a row. Keegan's rant was 95-96 when we lost a 12pt lead to finish runners up in the league.

It was what's now the europa league

Last night I was told villa and forest won the champions league, so they can't have it both ways

It was much harder to qualify for than the Europa League - you had to come from a city that held a trade fair, hence the name.

We also lost a semi final in extra time vs Chelsea and numerous in Europe... We won **** all but we were close enough times.

The best as sporting Lisbon

We won 2 - 0 at home them away went 1-0 up so the away goal meant they had to score 4 to go through in the second half

They scored 5 <laugh>

Exactly. We could rave about young 18yr old Branthwaite who when he’s played has barely put a foot wrong. The kid looks a genuine prospect.

But would we want a lad of that age as a first choice CB in the PL? Nope.

we have overpaid for Godfrey. But he had shown he had a bit about him in a pl seasn.

Where does he play though? Isn't he playing out of position? Surely it's a, tad early to judge him

he is overpriced. But we have the money and he showed at Norwich he has something. But cover at RB and a mixed CB pair/not settled.

Speaking of nufc this could be the most hilarious disaster yet

West brom Vs Newcastle now in doubt with the virus situation getting worse

At what point will they award points to the opposition?

this is just the PL punishing NUFC for questioning the non rejection of the takeover offer.
