Exactly. I can never remember Newcastle winning anything. As a lad I always use to think of them as the team that were likely to be runners up, but never winners.
They bring to mind two players, such as Malcolm MacDonald simply because he played for England and Alan Kennedy who left them to win trophies at Liverpool. Alan Kennedy would never have won anything if he hadn't of left them.
The North East has two massive clubs but when compared with Merseyside or London they are insignificant regarding any collection of silverware. So much so, I think I'm right in saying little ole West Ham have won the FA Cup three times since Newcastle last won it.
In fact when thinking of the two North East clubs, the only one that gets any recognition from me is Sunderland and Bob Stokoe, he played for Newcastle all his career but chose Sunderland their greatest rivals, to manage.![]()
I'm old enough to remember Bob Moncur (think it was him) lifting the then Fairs Cup
