The PL discussed a confidential stakeholder, I.e. the Government, hoping the Government would endorse blocking it.

Instead, the Government, keen not to upset the Saudis, distanced themselves by affirming that any decision is for the PL. The PL are now ****ting themselves because a can of worms has opened up.

The Government has never once suggested blocking it. They cannot be seen to be interfering as to do do would risk pissing the Saudis off.

They've done nothing because they don't care about investment in Newcastle... They're more concerned with losing votes.. They saw the way the media reacted and know they'll face the wrath if they were seen to demand it..

The government prefers keeping its dirty dealings under wraps.

The Government does not want a takeover stopped.

They recognise that Saudi investment in the North East is massive. That benefits the whole country economically.

The Government needs the Saudis onside for any economic recovery post Covid.

Then why the secret about what they said? Why was the lack of statement said to be [HASHTAG]#helpful[/HASHTAG]
Those tories are not to be trusted

The Government are simply reluctant to get involved in what is a decision for the PL. Government interference in football is frowned upon and can fall foul of FIFA and UEFA.

Legally, any involvement can be challenged.

If Saudi invested millions in the North East economy and encourage inward investment from elsewhere, does anyone seriously think the Government will say no?

Aramco for example. If PIF took us over and Aramco opened an office in the North East, what does that say to the outside world?

'This a place to invest.'

Economically, the Government wins post Covid and Brexit

Who says they won't invest elsewhere?

It's a small fry investment in a city they like to deprive
