ha ****ing ha. There’s kids at my eldests school targeted by ****ing morons just because they are lgbtq. Being harassed persistently both inside and outside of school. Do you think that’s funny? Not sure I get the humour.

It’s the trans day of remembrance coming up soon, where those who have lost their lives are remembered be that murder from transphobic ****s or those who commit suicide, the rate of suicide in the trans community is extremely high and it’s not because of any of the bollocks in your hilarious post. It’s **** like that silly bar graph that just belittles the **** they have to put up with on a daily basis. I can’t even get close to understanding how they must feel so many are ostracised from their own families and this day will be the only day their trans names will be heard out loud and used.

sorry kiwi you’ve met the brunt of me being pissed off but the thing at my eldests school is still ongoing and these cowardly ****s are in my view protected and because they think they can get away with it they continue targeting these kids just walking a fine line and because they can’t prove 100% with some of the online **** and the in person hatred is done out of view so one persons word against another. The teachers know it’s true I’ve spoke to the head of year and she’s a nice woman and is frustrated at having her hands tied.

nobody chooses to be trans and all trans people want is a bit of common decency and a little bit of consideration.

I agree with Wills entirely, especially as you pulled this post out of nowhere and it is not funny at all. So I am just deleting it Kiwi

Beth it boils my piss, not Kiwi btw, more the media and what they suggest people, in this case the trans community, get outraged about or suggest What’s coming next. It’s constant and it’s like Nazi style propaganda lie, repeat the lie repeat the lie until enough people believe it, which is quicker if people are already prejudiced as they yearn to believe it. Even if people don’t it totally takes away from and belittles the true struggles.

I’m on the committee At work for the equality groups and recently recorded a round the table podcast with a few others On the trans day of remembrance, so did that little bit of extra research to prepare, which turned into a lot of research as what I found out was both interesting and harrowing. It’s worth reading up on, whilst extremely sad it really does open up your eyes.

Thank you Wills, will do.

I have two really good Trans friends...but more markedly also a very close friend, Leon has a trans teenager.. I respect Leon so much for how he has fought for his son Max, just accepting who max wants to be...and helping him fight every step of the way.

And it is every single step of the way

Bullshit Kiwi.

Everything you copy on here is of the same nature.

Why not just say in your own words what you think?

BBC Radio 1 will not play the original version of Fairytale of New York by The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl this Christmas, because its audience may be offended by some of the lyrics.

The station said young listeners were particularly sensitive to derogatory terms for gender and sexuality.

It will instead play an edited version with different lyrics sung by MacColl.

But the 1987 original will still be played on Radio 2, while 6 Music DJs can choose between the two versions.

A BBC spokesman said: "We know the song is considered a Christmas classic and we will continue to play it this year, with our radio stations choosing the version of the song most relevant for their audience."

The duet is one of the most enduring Christmas pop songs, having returned to the UK top 20 every year since 2005. Along with a string of other festive favourites, it is now rising the chart again, at 59 in the current midweek chart.

But Radio 1 has decided younger listeners who are unfamiliar with the track would find some of the words stark and not in line with what they would expect to hear on air.

The new edited version changes two lines - one swapped for an alternative version in which MacColl sings "You're cheap and you're haggard" in place of a homophobic slur.

MacColl sang the newly-added line on Top of the Pops in 1992. She died in a boat accident in Mexico eight years later, at the age of 41.

The same wording was used by Ronan Keating and Moya Brennan in their 2000 cover version. When Ed Sheeran and Anne-Marie performed the song in Radio 1's Live Lounge in 2017, she opted to call him a "cheap lousy blagger".

In Radio 1's newly-edited version, another line, sung by Shane MacGowan in the second verse, has a word removed entirely.

'Not intended to offend'
Radio 1 has played the song in its original form in recent years, but the insults contained in the lyrics, sung in the form of a blazing row between an alcoholic and a heroin addict, have long been criticised by some.

The track was censored by Radio 1 back in 2007, but that decision was swiftly reversed after an outcry by its fans.

Andy Parfitt, the station's controller at the time, explained the U-turn by saying its audiences were "smart enough to distinguish between maliciousness and creative freedom", and there was no "negative intent behind the use of the words".

Aled Haydn-Jones, who worked as producer of Chris Moyles' breakfast show at the time, was made head of Radio 1 this June.

In 2018, MacGowan defended the song, explaining: "The word was used by the character because it fitted with the way she would speak and with her character. She is not supposed to be a nice person, or even a wholesome person.

"She is a woman of a certain generation at a certain time in history, and she is down on her luck and desperate. Her dialogue is as accurate as I could make it, but she is not intended to offend.

"She is just supposed to be an authentic character and not all characters in songs and stories are angels or even decent and respectable. Sometimes characters in songs and stories have to be evil or nasty in order to tell the story effectively."

Last year, there were hundreds of complaints after Gavin and Stacey characters Nessa and Bryn sang the unedited version in the sitcom's seasonal special.

This Christmas, Radio 2 said it had considered the issue carefully and would continue to monitor listeners' views, but had decided to continue to play the original.

6 Music, meanwhile, has said both versions can be played, at the discretion of each individual presenter.

Any chance of Priti Patel being sacked? She’d only be replaced by another far right dog whistler but it would still suggest something matters other than slavish loyalty to Johnson/Brexit.

It's interesting that apparently the Cabinet Office report found breach of the ministerial code and evidence of bullying, though it may not have been intentional.

Question is, to what extent should intention be taken into account in such matter

I didn't read Kiwi's post, but I'm interested in knowing the grounds on which you're censoring the thread, Beth. Apparently, this deletion of Kiwi's post is because you don't find it funny and you know some trans people. Or are you saying it broke hate speech laws?

Have you decided to be the arbiter of what goes up on the Politics thread?

Just asking on the grounds of free speech. Many thanks

She’s got more than enough form for both breaking the ministerial code and bullying to suggest she shouldn’t be anywhere near such a senior role. A civil servant was paid off after trying to kill herself.

We both know why she’s got that job and it’s not for any sort of skill. Appreciate she appeals to a lot of people but we really ought to have higher standards for the ****ing Home Secretary.

Yeah, that was five years ago, and standards have risen since then. I'm sure she's not the only minister, Tory or Labour, that has shouted at someone - but it should not happen.

I hope the Cabinet Office report is published in its entirety.

They’ve risen so much she’s been promoted to one of the highest offices in the government.

The worst government since the last one and HM Opposition too busy ripping itself apart. The tail is now not just wagging the dog but battering it's head against a brick wall. Shambolic...
