Very true, different generations use the same word but it has different meanings, I see Robs point but feel it’s important as well as us oldies having to understand how the younger generation feel upset by certain words, they in turn should appreciate us oldies use them differently.
Are they themselves the ones that get upset, or are they brainwashed into believing they should be offended or upset ? I think there is a marked difference. It also brings us back to the ripping down of Edward Colstons statue, when previously had you asked 90% or more of Bristol youth who he was, they wouldn't have had a clue.
I think for the most part young people are okay at that though. If an old grandparent says something a bit racist that wouldn't be allowed today, I'd imagine for the most part it's "ah it doesn't really matter, they're from a different time", rather than actually attacking 90+ year olds in the streets for it . I think there's an element of extremity being publicised because that's what sells. I'd imagine the actual number genuinely offended by the word in the song are incredibly low, and so the more 'extreme' opinions get more spotlight because they are extreme. That said, coming out is extremely difficult, so if I had a mate who was gay and was offended by it, I'd probably stand by him. I don't think it's as clear cut as some are making out. No one is really offended by the word because they know the context, but is it something we should all be singing every year? I suspect not. I'd argue that if you're acting all angry on either side of the argument, then you become one of the people you yourself are describing. You are right though, you definitely do see people being offended on behalf of other people for no real reason. Often when the 'victims' themselves couldn't give a damn about the offending word or whatever it is.
What a good idea, lets ban every song, every film, every series, every programme, every book, everything in history that might slightly offend or upsets someone in some form of life ..ffs get some balls..
Out of interest would you advocate the same and paste the full lyrics on here if the word was the offensive racist slur rather than this homophobic one?
The ironic part is that from all of the popular Xmas songs ever released, it's one of my least favourite !
the only person he beat was his team mate... the last 3 seasons at least no one has had a competitive car ... to me it is a hollow victory should I have raced against someone over 200m and they wellie in boots and me running shoes would not getany satisfaction
I can't stand 'holier than thou' Lewis Hamilton. His car is so far superior to the rest anyone driving his Mercedes would be wotld champion.
Only ever been beaten by a teammate over a season twice - once in very fortuitous circumstances. You can say what you like about his personality but he's the best driver of his generation and one of the greatest ever, no question. Even the race the other day typified him - far down the field in a car not suited to the conditions, but he managed to walk it by the end while his teammate languished third from last. The guy is an animal in the car.
It will end. We have already seen reactions to political correctness, wokeness and identity politics. Society will reframe itself, there will be a reaction and backlash as eventually more and more stand up for what is basic freedom of expression and thought. Rewriting history and attempting to control minds is never a good idea.
That’s **** all on RP, he’s a ?? Am I allowed to say it now? I’m Welsh, and to honest I’ve been called sheep shager all my life, will that be banned soon?
Which isn't even a word much used in this country other than the foodstuff of the same name, or pieces of wood to make a fire ? But 'having a ***' is used for people who smoke and the word *** also came from public schools
